There is a Whaley DNA site already set up at http://worldfamilies.net/surnames/w/whaley/ If you go to this link you will get the group rate for DNA testing which is quite a bit less that getting individual testing. Also I have found out that it is best to go ahead and get the Y-DNA37 kit. It gives the most info for what we are doing. Thanks Justin for getting the ball rolling. If we do this, it will open a lot of doors.. Justin, I will be willing to donate some of my time to help with comparison or correlation or anything else I can help you with. The list is for those who are interested in getting the Y-DNA37 test done. You will be responsible for the cost of getting your DNA test. If you cant afford it maybe we can come up with a way to make it affordable. Once we have a diverse enough sampling of DNA for the Whaley surname. Meaning at least one sample from some of the major branches of the Whaley surname me and anyone else who wishes to donate thier time will begin to look at how each of the families coorilate. This will be done by looking at how each family relates and this is told to us by the DNA lab we send our DNA into. We then use those coorilations to find out where we all branched out along the way. Once we begin to figure that out maybe some gaps and holes in some family line can be filled in by other lines with common descent. The possibilites and benefits are endless and I am a bit busy so I will not go into everything as of yet. The testing price vfor the 37 marker test is $189 and that is the group discounted price. You can visit the website to see what the DNA test is all about at. http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=K70549&special=True&projecttype=S If you wish to immediately order your DNA test feel free. Otherwise we will need to figure out the best and most efficent way to have everyone get the test because I understand that the cost is steep. One such way is to split the cost between the members of your surrounding family who would benifit from the results. Such and parents, cousins.....etc. -- Justin Whaley

You seem to be pretty fond of the word "compiling." Now you've just added it to another word, "comparing" which lends a new dimension to the task at hand. Compiling is merely drawing up a list, for some purpose. Plenty easy. Comparing means what? Comparing the DNA data you get back to someone else's DNA results? How does one do that? *I* can't do that! There are experts that are paid well to do that, not so? So why do you say those who are mentioned on this "DNA Interest List" are those who have agreed to "...compile and compare DNA of the various branches of the Whaley family." No. Not me. I know only what DNA is, generally speaking. I wouldn't have a clue as to how to perform any comparison analyses... That's for that expert of which I spoke. The DNA test will cost some specified amount, and that's only the beginning. Now you have to add the cost of whomever it is that will actually do the work of comparing all the individual DNA data that's gathered to each and every OTHER one. Not so? Otherwise, what good is it for anyone to have their DNA data extracted and recorded? Have you established what the work flow will be, and who the workers will be? And the ultimate cost of comparing the various DNA sample data to those on the list? In submitting my name to this compilation of yours, I merely agreed it would be a good idea, and said, "Sure. Count me in as a person interested in donationg his DNA for testing." Nothing else. So...who IS going to do the work, and what will it end up costing us? Who will be doing the sorting and mailing and emailing and performing the detailed comparisons required? Not me. I'm just a source. You or your assignee will be doing all the stuff in the above paragraph, for some to-be-agreed-upon fee. Once I know that, perhaps we can proceed. Not before that. Lots of clarification and elaboration needed. This nucleus must be expanded into a workable plan. * * * In the meanwhile, I'd almost forgotten about the "other" DNA comparison site Mike Whaley mentioned, at: http://worldfamilies.net/surnames/w/whaley/. I think I'll slip over and take a look at it again. That site is supposed to have already been established. If so, why start another? Later, keith whaley From Charles (Dale, N.Y.), Steven, Lucius Daniel, William Howard, Don Lucius (my dad.)
OK it seems we have some interest... Good.... If you read this and havn't expressed your interest please express it... Now we need to make sure those who have expressed thier interest are all from different branches of the Whaley surname. The easiest way to do this is if you know someone else that expressed interest that is a close relative please let us know. We only need one DNA sourch from each branch. For instance if you and your brother or even first cousin get the dna test done you both will have pretty much the same results so why waste the time and money on the second test. I will send out a compiled list of those interested in the next email along with the address to the DNA project website and the cost. I beleive we get a group discount if we order a certain amount of test done at once. Also if your a female and interested please find a male of close relation that would be willing to do the test. We need males for this test. Again please respond to this e-mail if you are interested or let a Whaley know who you think might be interested. The only Ezekiel we have listed in the Whaley Search Party's oldest ancestor list was born 1764, so he couldn't have served in 1776 at 12 years of age. Carolyn

Who knows, this John Whaley might be a relative of mine. Regards, Liz Gann

Mike, That would be wonderful. What do you need from me? I have a Family Tree file, but it's huge and I haven't been successful in separating out the different lines. The file I have now includes all my husbands family as well as my own. A lot more than just Whaley's.
