Frank I hope this is still a working address. My Grandfather Richard WHALLEY born in Lancaster 1853 but his birth certificate stated WALLEY. His grandfather Thomas Walley was born in Cheshire 1816. Could there be a connection? I live in the USA and pronounce WHALLEY as Wally. Some people pronounce it as Whale-ey which drove me crazy when I was a young person. I may have mentioned this before, so if so, please forgive the repetition! In early colonial records, my Whaley ancestors' marriage bond reads: WHEALEY. I always thought it was because it was pronounced like curds and whey! One must be subscribed in Digest mode to get the Digests automatically. Digests are a series of posts to the list that come out at either a specific time or when the size of combined messages reaches a certain limit. For each email address one has one can only be subscribed under either list mode - which means each email to the list comes as one individual email to you or Digest which was described above. In the days previous to this system one could email the server for missing Digests - but not now. That's why I'm subscribed to the list, as list admin in regular and Digest modes - so that I can have Digests available for folks who request them and to make sure the Digest portion is still working. If anyone wants a Gmail account and needs an invite, please let me know for I can send you one. Mike, I do not have any electronic information from family info. However, I could do some copies of my written stuff that I have collected and send it to you. I find the reserach on the internet very confusing. There is so much contradiction even in the spelling of John Whalley's wife, such as Springate, Spurrgate, etc,, I always try to notice the birth dates which seem to have a wide range of difference from the different sources that you come across in reserach. By the way, I notice I spelled John's son , Herbert, wrong. It is not Hebert. Sue, Do you have an electronic copy or just a copy of the research done by your Aunt Clara Whaley? I would really like to get a copy . My lineage is supposedly from the son of John Whaley (William) who came with his brother, Charles Thomas, to Edisto SC from MD. I am trying to find a DNA donor from this line to compare my DNA. At this time no one from the John Whaley line has come forward. I am looking for a male donor from the Alexander Whaley TN SC line to come forward. At this time I have only 3 Whaley's to compare DNA and non of them are a match.
