    3. Just curious... Is there a FASTER/EASIER way to research the census than what I'm doing? (Keep in mind I'm researching other names in addition to Whaley.) I live in Springfield, Missouri, and the local library has to order census and/or soundex from a library in Kansas City. The last time I used that service it took over a month to receive a soundex I ordered, and 2 months for a particular census. The local LDS Family History center also can order; it's usually within 2-3 weeks, but at a higher price (3-4 dollars, where the library is $1 per reel). I made one trip to Kansas City to use the library there. Since it was a Saturday, I had to use the regular public library, but I was able to stay 3-4 hours and do several things at once. However, the census I wanted was unavailable (i.e., loaned out). In Kansas City, there's also a National Archives in Kansas City, open only on weekdays, but it does have all the censuses and they don't leave the premises. But... it requires a free weekday and a 3-hour drive. Is there any other way of using census that I'm missing?? 3. For those of us from EZEKIEL WHALEY the 1769 taxables of Dobbs Co has JOHN WHALEY and that is where Ezekiel was on the 1790 census. Also on the list were John, Joseph, & Robert JARMAN. Ezekiel enlisted in Rev. War in Duplin Co. We know Ezekiel was in Lenoir Co and that was taken from Dobbs in 1791. Ezekiel was on Dobbs census 1790 and Lenoir was taken from Dobbs in 1791. Ezekiel was then on the 1800 Lenoir Co census. He probably never moved, but because of Dobbs being discontinued his county name changed to Lenoir. Is it possible Ezekiel never lived in Duplin, but ONLY enlisted there?? With Ezekiel born c1764 is it probable the JOHN WHALEY on 1769 Dobbs Co was Ezekiel's father?? --Does anyone have access to Dobbs Co deed/will/probate/etc? PLEASE look for John Whaley. Jean W.

    3. I have an ancestor about whom I found an LDS record with a notation of "Sealed into Perpetuity." Is this what it appears to be? That no-one can get info from it? I have the file number and so on, but it was so long ago, I don't recall how I found it in the first place... Any chance I can access it somehow? I really need some info on this stumbling block of an ancestor. Why would such a notation appear? Requested by those person(s) who entered it? If so, why would they do that? Is it sealed from anyone at all digging it out and reviewing it? Thanks for all help, keith whaley

    2. THEOPHILUS FGSs-The spelling of Kingston, RI used to be Kingstown according to old maps. Weeden has the old spelling on all of those older FGSs. And if you WSP members who ordered the Theophilus-Mary Burdick and the Theophilus-Mary Kilbourn could help with extra data, we would appreciate it. RLNSD GEORGE WALE and OSWALD WALE data--to Sug and others-- to order the attachments, write to [email protected] SANTANA--your message "Hi, I'm back!!" made my mind go blank. As I am writing to approximately 50 or more people, I couldn't place you for a while .RLNSD BEN WHALEY--there were some William Manly Whaleys who lived in Marion Co SC. Perhaps some connection could be found. Perhaps the Sevier Co TN and Marion Co SC Whaleys were connected after all. J. Weeden THOMAS E. WHALEY I am wondering if you have any reply to the material I sent to you with a lot of notations. J. Weeden Meckertl--I need a location here to help locate your George Roswell Whaley--state and county--especially the state. If he were born in the teens maybe I could find him in the 1920 census. J. Weeden SAM WHALEY--in Digest 140, you had an entry indicating your father is John B. Whaley b. 1932 and mother is Sally Ann Nicks b 1932 and your grandfather is Jack? who married Audrey. 3. Randy, Have you looked for Job in the 1860 and 1850 census? In 1860 he should be 38 living with Mary and James. I don't know if there is an index for 1860 Ohio. You may have to read Jackson county from end to end. Quite a job, but often worth it. In 1850 he should be 18 and may be living with his parents. I would start by checking the Whaley families in Jackson Co. There are 7 of them, 5 in Liberty Twp. According to my index they are: Abner Liberty Twp 377 Elizabeth Liberty Twp 377 John Scioto Twp 361 Joseph Liberty Twp 377 Luke Liberty Twp 384 Silas Scioto Twp 361 Silas Jr. Liberty Twp 377 Do you have ready access to the census? I do and can check these if you wish. 3. Randy: Have you tried the 1900 soundex for James, Wilson, & David Whaley? If you find them as married men does it say each born Ohio? That might be all you need to decide between two or more of the same name. Was Ohio one of the states with all/part of the 1890 census? My Handy Book does not say. On the 1870/80 census where does it say Job/Jobe was born? Since he was born c1832 find him with his parents on 1850 census. All censuses have an index so this should be fairly easy because not all states will have the Whaley name. If he had an 11 yr old on the 1870 census then Job was a married man on the 1860 census. Where was he 1860? Start with Ohio and find out which Whaley names were on that census. Research takes patience & time and sometimes money. Try these things first because they are free. Jean W. 3. Hello Carolyn, My name is Deborah Whaley Handshew, 125 Sugar Maple Dr. Etters PA 17319. My present Whaley relatives live in Western PA. We trace our family back to Theophilus Whaley from England. My father John Whaley had done some Whaley research and I am interested in learning more. At the present time I am wanting for him to send me the information he has already gathered. Once I have that info I will e-mail back with the dates on Theophilus. We have a family story that he was a member of the Kings guard and in a plot to kill the king. When the plot was disovered he fled to American to save his life. My great aunt would tell a wonderful tale about him escaping from England. I am interested in finding out how true the story is. - Deborah Whaly Handshew
