Ruby, This is what I can decipher of the handwritten data on Henry of Galway or Galloway, brother of Edward the Regicide. I have only managed to interpret some of it by referring to the letter by W.F. Littledale to the journal Notes and Queries, June 26, 1869. Littledale resided, I believe, at Whaley Abbey, Wicklow, Ireland (not to be confused with Whalley Abbey, Lancashire, England). I strongly suspect this handwritten note is in fact written by Littledale, since much of the data is the same, though in some respects the letter in N&Q gives more detail. Everything in brackets () is my comments. ??? is a word I can't decipher. A ? before a word means I'm not certain of it. Thanks to all of you who responded to my call for help. I had been getting back error messages every time I tried to send an e-mail in, so I guess everything is working correctly now. I am trying to find any information at all on: John Calhoun Whaley b. 1834 in Louisiana or South Carolina, d. 1913 in Dallas, Texas. Family lore has it that his family was burned out sometime when he was a young boy, and he and his father walked to Texas. His father died along the way, and he was taken in by some kind people he met here. Does anyone know anything about him? I've been searching for years and cannot get past him. Like the one on the top of this message, the CC is going to <[email protected]> When you send yours, what is in the SEND TO box? You may well be getting two messages, one to you and one to the list. You can delete YOUR address in the response post, if it shows up in the send to area, because you'll get one anyhow, if you're signed up to receive "[email protected]" posts... That will avoid your getting two messages each time. keith whaley

To Thom Beaver and Mary Kenfield-- It seems to take a long time to get this Postal Mail back and forth to WI. I now have received Weeden's handwritten FGSs for your line to James (1). I now have them typed onto disks and can attach and send: James (1) and Margaret ?Goff Alexander (2) and Elizabeth Shaw Samuel (3) and Olive Darrow Alexander (4) and Abigail Snow Francis (5) and Susanna Ford George Christopher (6) and Elizabeth Cole (I hope I got this right!) We would like for you to compare these with what you have and if we can exchange data to fill in blanks it would be helpful. I also promised to send by postal mail the Rev. Sam Supplement and Index and a copy of that handwritten data re Henry, of Galway? Ireland who is grandfather to James (1). Maybe you can help decipher that page and help find the name of the father of James (1). Jackie has also sent a copy of Oneida Co NY probate record lists and some abstracts of newspaper clippings for Oneida Co done by a researcher she had hired. She has her usual notes accompanying these sheets. I will send copies of these materials some time this week. I am waiting for help on the index--Mike Goad, can you help????? Ruby
In Digest 162 and 163 Randy asked for help with his line. He descends from Martha who mar Thomas Sears, d/o Job/Jobe who m Mary Jane West, s/o Silas who m Susannah Halterman, s/o George who m Mary Katherine ___. He had data re George (this is the same George who was in the Miller-Whaley line) and he had some data for Job. He said he needed help with Silas and Halterman. He also wanted to know what happened to Job's sons James, Wilson and David. I have very little on Job's sons James and David C., but do have a FGS for Wilson, which is not on disk yet. We can send by attachment the FGSs for Job/Jobe, Silas and George. Maybe he could help us fill in the blanks from what he has. Let us know if he wants them. Jackie Weeden
I received a query from a KS cousin of my Miller line and she found a query on her Miller web. (John Emmitt wanted to know if someone could locate a Miller-Whaley marriage.) It seems that James Miller married Mary and Margaret Whaley. The location was Pike Co and Ross Co OH in the 1840-50s. So....query sent to Weeden... Reply--"Mary and Margaret were sisters and daughters of Luke Whaley (and Celinda/Selinda Weese), s/o Abner Whaley (and Elizabeth Bonecutter) s/o George Whaley. I wonder if John Emmitt has further info on these girls and will share it with us. Does he know where and when they died? I found a death index listing for a Mary A. Miller on 5-16-1876 in Scioto, Pike Co OH, but I can't be sure if it was for the right Mary. Can John Emmitt help out on these 2 women?" Jackie >From rln--I have prepared Family Group Sheets (FGSs) for Luke and Abner and George. I will attach and send them to John Emmitt. His address is: [email protected] Can any WSP member add to this data???
Hi all--I just received a wonderful picture scanned by Nita Irvine, descendant of Henry A. and Amanda McMillan. It is a family group of 11 people sitting in front of a log cabin and she has identified some of them, such as Henry A. and Amanda McMillan and their son J. Hercules and wife Mary Rubert and their child Henry Louis. This picture was probably taken in Clay Co TX in the early 1800s. (And they are a good looking bunch.) Nita and Joy have been digging and sending us material on their lines as both descend from John and Mary Airheart, who had 13 children, one of them being Henry A. If you also are a descendant, she probably would also send you the scan. Ruby (Ask [email protected])
Thank you for your warm welcome to the Whaley Search Party. The oldest Whaley for which I have documentation is Lewis Whaley, b. 1794 Duplin County, NC. He was the father of Durrant Green Whaley (1826-1862), parent of Lewis Merritt Whaley (1856-1910), father of my grandmother, Carrie Octavia Whaley Rouse (1883-1903). I look forward to learning more about the Whaley family, especially the North Carolina branch. Jackie
To all of those who had computer crashes, sing this to the old Beatle tune of YESTERDAY. Yesterday, >All those backups seemed a waste of pay. >Now my database has gone away. >Oh I believe in yesterday. >Suddenly, >There's not half the files there used to be, >And there's a milestone hanging over me >The system crashed so suddenly. >I pushed something wrong >What it was I could not say. >Now all my data's gone >and I long for yesterday-ay-ay-ay. >Yesterday, >The need for back-ups seemed so far away. >I knew my data was all here to stay, >Now I believe in yesterday :-)
Hi all-- More about Henry A. being the son of 'two' fathers. We have him as s/o John and Mary Airheart. Smoky Mountain Web has him as s/o William M. and Mary Ogle. The source given for the Smoky Mountain list naming Henry A. as a child of William M. is given as 'Smoky Mountain Clans, Volume 3' by Donald Reagan, 1983, p. 3-5. We have a copy of Reagan's list but it does not compare exactly with the list on Smoky Mountain Web. Reagan does not show a son Henry A. SMOKY MT. The Henry A. we have in the family of John and Mary Airheart was b. 1826, so he could not be *#4. male Whaley* nor could he fit in between Isaac and Jane as they were born in 1826 and 1827.
