The Bowie/Redriver Whaleys came from William Durant Green Whaley who came there in the early 1900's from North Carolina. He married his second wife, Ida Spencer, and later moved to Ocala, Fl. ----- Original Message ----- From: MARY l BARNES <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, August 27, 1999 12:23 PM Subject: Whaley, Texas > The Whaleys in Marshall ,Texas were descendants of Thomas Jefferson > Whaley, son of Eli Whaley, son of William Whaley and Hannah of Ga. The Whaleys in Marshall ,Texas were descendants of Thomas Jefferson Whaley, son of Eli Whaley, son of William Whaley and Hannah of Ga. Two of T.J. 's sons went to Texas and settled in the Marshall and Longview area. Mary Lee Barnes Would be interested to know which one had descendants in Bowie Co.
There is a village called Whalley Bridge in Lancashire. I've been there and (somewhere) have a photo of the train staition. I'm not sure if there are other 'Whaley-villes' but can check when I get back there if anyone is interested. Hi all! I've only posted a few times before, but I get a great deal out of reading all the messages. (Often answers to questions I never thought of asking!) Anyhow, I just wanted to share my FIRST real bit of research... Since I became interested, I have just been finding what I could on the internet, but I have now taken it one step further... I was interested in the origin of Whaley, TX - in Bowie County. I had a great grandfather who ranched there, & thought there might be a connection. I wrote (snail mail) to the Texarkana USA Genealogical Society, and got a wonderful letter back. Whaley, TX was named after a family from Marshall, TX - so no relation to me, but I'm sure someone will find this interesting. Also, the kind lady who wrote back to me says that she went through an index of Bowie County Marriage Licences that were never picked up by the couple... and my Great Grandparents 1909 licence is there! She is sending it to me now! (I'm so thrilled!) Just wanted to share my first "victory"! Carmen Whaley Lyons descendant of ... M.L.Whaley VA L.O.G.Whaley FL W.D.G.Whaley 1863 NC D.G.Whaley 1825 NC L. One comment, HEARNDEN, HARRINGTON, HERINGTON and about half a dozen other variations have been used for the same family in Rhode Island. It's a little more complicated than general confusion <grin>. This is not to say everyone with that surname is closely related, but you must investigate each spelling. I've seen fathers and sons use different versions, and actually I guess it's just whatever the town clerk felt like writing down that day. Wayne > GENERAL THEOPHILUS??? Putting query out again as to John Whaley m Sarah Phelps Campbell County, KY 1819. Issue: William, John R., Cassandra, Israel, Elizabeth, Mary Ellen, Agnex, James H. D., and Squire. John was Administrator of his son William's estate in 1851, Kenton County, KY. All records I have, census, etc., reflect Kenton County, KY. Would like info on John and Sarah's parents and/or siblings. Thank you.
RE-ENROLLING--I didn't realize I had also been removed from the membership list of WSP!! That really caused George a lot of trouble-- so sorry--and thanks to him for re-enrolling me in the Digest Mode. FGS--I have been asked what that means. It means Family Group Sheet and it gives all the family data and census record data that Jackie has on a family. When I offered to put her handwritten FGSs on disk, I was told there would be 800. Wrong...she is making more all the time and I may never catch up!! Well...we have passed the 600 mark now. While I was on *vacation* I made alphabetical lists of the letters we have completed. (A, B, C, D, E, F, J, K) and there are lots of FGSs done in the other letters also. At present I am doing the GEORGE list..I have 10 so far and more are on the way. That was a popular name then, and yet. The article that went out to WSP on Oswald had not been entirely edited. There was a change in dating systems back then, and I was to change some of the dates. But I laid my hand on "send all" and away it went. Sorry. CREDIT CARDS--One thing I learned is that one should have more than one card--that way an account can be switched while they are playing games with the other one. I had my number changed 3 times in a week! And of course they will not give numbers on the phone!!! Yes, Robert, experiences like this give a person character--but I became a real *witch* before I got a legitimate card in my hand. (And it isn't Halloween yet!) THEOPHILUS and TRIPP--Elizabeth Coyles. I sent your FGS to Jackie and she will be making some changes, I am sure. JOY and NITA-Jackie found a HUGE volume in the Madison WI Library re Cooke Co TX Fairview Cemetery readings. So there will be some more changes. BARB TOPPOZINI-I find that I only have FGS for John and Rosanna and Joseph and Redhead. Our list owner George Whaley is of this line and he can help you, I am sure. I will send the two FGSs that I have. GENERAL THEOPHILUS??? To Mary Kinch--There is no record of his being called a General. Jackie says that the Harrington name has been confused with Hearndon, and she is the one who married Samuel, s/o Theophilus. Would you like to see our FGS for Theophilus and Mills and Samuel and Hearndon?? Send request to [email protected] WHALEY CREST--is that the same as the Coat of Arms? There is a picture of that in the Rev. Sam book. FAYE CLIFTON--Jackie Weeden says she has no more data other than the census records and marriage records I wrote to you about. DEBORAH LINK-I will re edit the Theophilus article this morning and then forward it to you. Bev has sent me copies of your discussions and I am sending it to Jackie tomorrow. I hope I have the right Deb here. JEANE FREEMAN--your letter will cause some adjustments to Robert James and we will get back to you later. Is this the end???? GEORGE WHALEY-did you find your Rev. Sam book? We both seem to have dogs that love paper products. I can make you a copy if you so wish. (Jackie says you have data to help Toppozini as this is your line.)

I don't have much as I have not been doing this for very long but will share what I do have. Mary Emma Whaley born in Wisconsin November 25 1854-married Elisha Huston Neese. John Whaley born February 7 1833 in Cambridge england-married Rosan Moore. Joseph Whaley born 1801 in England-married Rebecca Redhead. Joshua Whaley born 1779-married Hannah Bramer. Hi WSPers, I received the following message from Mary Kinch. She is a member of the Whaley Search Party. Could someone check if the names she mentions are in Rev. Samuel's book.
