Thanks to several members, I have already worked back a couple of generations and have some more clues about my original couple. What a great group you are! Mike McIntier
I "tripped" over this yesterday while looking for something unrelated. I don't vouch for any of the data it contains. In fact the FGS that Ruby and Jackie sent to me for John (my gg grandfather) has slightly different dates. (John C Whaley b 1786, d 11/10/1852). There is no indication who put it on the web. Maybe it will help someone in their search. ( I also note the web site, but I found it through Ask Jeeves.com. so it looks a bit odd) Linda Boehme [email protected] http://www.askjeeves.com/main/metaAnswer.asp?MetaEngine=Excite&logQID=541C01 5C88A7D3118A8C00A0C9ACFE70&qCategory=NEWS&qSource=0&frames=yes&site_name=Jee ves&scope=web&r=x&MetaTopic=Whaley&MetaURL=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.excite.com%2F relocate%2Fsr%3Dwebresult%7Css%3DThe%2BWhaley%2BChronicles%7Cid%3D32976944%3 Bhttp%3A%2F%2Fmembers.aol.com%2FVWilson577%2Fwhaley.html&EngineOrdinal=4&Ite mOrdinal=4&ask=The+Whaley+Chronicles+metasearch&origin=0&MetaList=http%3A%2F %2Fsearch.excite.com%2Frelocate%2Fsr%3Dwebresult%7Css%3DThe+Whaley+Chronicle s%7Cid%3D32976944%3Bhttp%3A%2F%2Fmembers.aol.com%2FVWilson577%2Fwhaley.html& x=19&y=12 Whaley This newspaper article was in my great-grandmothers scrapbook. Hi John Whaley Jr. Your violin data, etc. is very interesting. Jackie Weeden, Whaley genealogist would like to know the locations (state and county) and dates for the Whaleys you list. She has LOTS of data on a LOT of Whaleys and maybe she can help you fill in some blanks. Answer to rlnsd.aol.com as she is not on line.
Hello, My name is John Whaley, Jr. I only know my line back to my great-grandfather...Price Newton Whaley. Of course my fathers name is John...his father was Jack Jay Whaley. I was given somewhat of a family heirloom....a violin...yes, a violin. It's in sad shape, but, if you look carefully, with a flashlight, on the inside of the violin, there are initials of previous owners. i guess that when the violin was repaired, each 'repairman' initialed his/her work. well, there is one initial that says....."S. Whaley 1862" Since my grandfather gave this violin to my dad, and then my dad gave it to me, i figure it must be 'ours'. so, all i can ask now is.....HELP. hahahaha. Thanks, John Whaley, Jr

Cornell University put this entire 130 volume set on line a couple of months ago, and the index is now in a search engine. The current index has approx. 370,000 entries and indexes down to the volume level, but not the page. You will still need to browse through the index to the individual volumes to find a particular page number, but the search engine as it stands makes the whole set much easier to use. My Grandmother is Alice Louise Waite Bruce b. 6/23/1913 in Washington County, NY. Her father was Henry George Waite b. 6/16/1875 (or 76); d. January 1933 in Washington County, NY. From what I can find he was part indian - but that is all we have been able to find. Her mother was Aida Louise Whaley b. 3/25/1887; d. sometime in 1954. The Whaley's were quite wealthy. My grandmother is very ill and we are interested in tracking the history - especially from the indian aspect. Any help would be great. Thanks. I saw this on Whaleyall and thought it might profit from a larger audience. Leslie Quist

Dear Tammy--from Jackie Weeden. I read you message that was in the 11-17-99 Digest #250. The location is MN and the time span is the early 1900s. The census records I have found correspond with a son named Arthur George and a father named Earl. However, the census records seem to show that Arthur G. was b c. 1915 (You said 7-5-1913). You also said that Earl 'was married' ? in Ireland or Holland. You were right to use the question marks from the looks of the census records. Earl, it would seem, was the son of Henry b 1863 ?KS and Mary b. 1873 in IA. 1920 census shows Henry b in Canada--so that is 'up for grabs'. You should be able to find more info on this family in both Martin and Traverse Co MN--marriage, death, probate and cemetery records should be there. Here are some census records for 1900 and 1920 from soundex--the actual records would be more complete. 1900 Martin Co MN, Welcome, ED 171, p. 1 Henry Whaley--------b 7-1863--age 36--b KS Mary Whaley wife--b 12-1873--age 26--b IA Loyed Whaley son--b 12-1889--age 10--b IA (Evidently Lloyd) Elva Whaley dau--b 4-1891--age 8--b MN Earl Whaley son--b 6-1893--age 6--b MN Ethel Whaley dau--b 9-1895 --age 4--b MN 1920 Traverse Co MN, ED 197 or 147, p. 12 Earl Whaley----------26 b MN Jane Whaley-wife 23 b MN Arthur Whaley son 4 6/12 b MN Ervin Whaley son 2 b MN 1920, Traverse Co MN, ED 197, or 147, p. 2 Anna E. To Deborah Whaley Handshew from Jackie Weeden-- I read your entry in Digest 254. We have three generations of your line on disk and can attach them to you to see how they compare with your data. I can see one difference and that is that Thomas Whaley Jr.'s wife is listed on my material as Elizabeth instead of Lydia. If you want to see the Family Group Sheets for: Thomas Whaley Sr. and Eunice Hubbard; Thomas Whaley Jr. and Elizabeth Kent; and Henry Whaley and Hannah Mosier let [email protected] know. Jackie Weeden
Hi Elizabeth etal-- Jackie Weeden's company is all over the horizon now, and I was able to have a discussion with her about your line. She would like to have you make a generation by generation list of what you have been told--give names, dates of birth, death, places, etc. She is having trouble hooking Eli and son James D. to the rest of the material you mentioned. She thinks the material you were given is a mixture of two lines. She has record of Fulton Co GA, 1860, Atlanta of: John Whaley-------29-b GA Emily Whaley-----25-b FL Mary Whaley--------4-b ?IL (Could it be FL?) Emma F. Whaley-1 b FL In the same time and place (Fulton Co GA in 1860) are: Caleb Whaley-27-b GA Molly Whaley-23 b (I forgot to write this birthplace.) Then in 1900 in Marion Co FL, Ocala are: John R.----------b 3-1830 GA age 70 widow* Sid R.------son b 11-1870 GA age 29 m 4yrs Allie B. dau/in/law b 9-1874 FL age 26 m 4 yrs-1child-1 living Julia B. gr/dau b 8-1897 FL age 2 yrs. *Jackie has pension data for John R. This John R. seems to be the John that was in Fulton Co GA in 1860. This data makes it look like your James R. is really John R. Please give your generations. Let me know what you think. Ruby

I need to sit with these papers (won't happen tomorrow) and write in an organized manner exactly what they are saying. The few that weren't burnt that is. They are mostly from turn of the century or before...and I'm just tiptoeing into geneological waters. Boy the current sure is strong! :^) I've been cooking all day...a knee-jerk reaction to the season I suppose. My cousin made reservations at a restaurant..so we'll eat there. I still bought a turkey and I'll invite friends in on the weekend. I can't imagine not having left-over turkey sandwiches! Have a lovely day! Elizabeth G. Eli had a son James D. as you say, but James D. (according to what we have on him, had sons James Lewis, Isaac B. and Agrippa J.) He had other sons, but we have no names for them. My partner, Jackie Weeden, who was the instigator of the Whaley book and did most of the research, is preparing for 20 or so guests tomorrow and I really don't want to call her. She is not on line. Oh yes...since i'm new to this ...what is an FGS...family group sheet? I don't know the tools for setting this up. If you know of something that works well let me know. thanks, Elizabeth G.
