>From Jackie Weeden-- In Digest 257 Leslie Quist was asking for help for someone in finding ancestors for Alice Louise Waite Bruce b 6/23/1913 in Washington Co NY. Her parents were Henry George Waite b 6/16/1875 or 76 -d Jan. 1933 Washington Co NY and Aida Louise Whaley b 3/25/1887-d sometime in 1954. Evidently this query is from Whaleyall, so I don't know how to get info to this person. This Aida/Ada Louise Whaley mentioned was a dau of Judson H. and Minnie M. (___) Whaley. The line behind Judson is the same line shared by Pat Carpenter of WSP. Pat had a query in Digest 1998 #220 11-25-98. We communicated with her through Mar. 16, 1999 when she said she would be sending out her info on the line. I don't believe we ever heard from her again. So I was not able to compile a FGS on Edgar and Julia for lack of info on them. Anyway, we have Family Group Sheets for several generations back of Judson I. and Minnie. This line descends -- Theophilus and Elizabeth Mills Samuel and __Hopkins and Patience Hearndon Samuel and Catherine Ball Samuel and Hannah Austin Pasqua and Eunice Gedwark Thomas M. and Lucy Waite David Hazewell and Sarah___ Judson I., and Minnie_____ Aida/Ada Louise Whaley and Henry Geo Waite Alice Louise Waite Bruce Leslie--you may pass this info on to whoever it was you were quoting. Pat--we'd like to hear from you.
Where is this book located? I must have missed something. --Carol
>From Jackie Weeden: We corresponded with Linda Boehme in the past and exchanged materials. We sent her my FGS for John Whaley and wives Samantha Chester and Matilda Collins. In Digest #260 Linda entered a copy of a newspaper article about this family from a web and she notes it has some different data here and there than what I have on my FGS. I have a copy of the original article. It is from the *Morenci Observer* of Morenci, MI and dated Sept. 8, 1906. The original states that John was b in Essex VT in 1789, not 1798. The three children of John C. and Samantha are correct, but it says that their son John C. Whaley's second wife was Abiah, whereas it should be Abigail Welch. The elder John C. married second to Matilda Collins and 13 of their 14 children are listed. There is an error with their child Warner--his oldest child was Odell, not Odeil. The youngest child is listed as Lucien in his pension papers, whereas the article calls him Lucene. Sometimes he is referred to Luciene. The original article differs in regards to the death date for the father John C. Whaley. His headstone in Old Morenci Cemetery says he d 11-10-1852 @ 66 years, whereas the death age is given as 63 in the article. Wyamarus is also incorrectly spelled in both the original article and the web article entered by Linda. This article was written by S. M. Whaley (Squire M.), s/o Cyrenus and Sally (Gorham) Whaley. Cyrenus was the oldest child of John C. and Matilda Collins. There is also a biographical sketch in the book *History and Biographical Record of Lenawee County, MI*, 1879 which states John C. Whaley was b in Washington Co *VT* in 1786. The 1850 census shows his birth place as NY. One earlier Whaley descendant and researcher felt that the different places stated as his place of birth is further confused in that a bordering county to the state of VT is Washington Co NY. Plus, there was much Whaley activity in Washington Co NY from the late 1700s and on. In 1790 the east portion of Washington Co NY was ceded to VT. This might be a factor in determining the birth place of John C. This FGS for John C. and his two wives is available by attachment, as are his children John C., Cyrenus, Otis, Philetus, James and Lucien.
Please send me the information that Frank Whalley put out I have received part of it. I received the pictures of Wyarmus & Stephen his brother but nothing before or since. Thanking you in advance. I believe I have now fulfulled all requests for transcript, ancestor chart back to Wyamarus, and JPG scan of Whalley information from 'The History and Antiquities of the County of Leicester' by John Nichols. If I have overlooked anyone - I'm sorry! - please let me know. A couple of people have had trouble opening up some of the stuff, and I've tried to resolve the problem. Others have thanked me, they have had no problem. If anyone is still having difficulty, please let me know. Frank
