This list sure is quiet re: the surname "Whelen" ! I read online recently that the names Whelen, Whalen, Whelan, etc. may also be spelled in early records as "Phelan" because it originates from the Gaelic name, O'Faolin, pronounced as "Phwalen." Anyone ever run into this in your searching? I'm still trying to locate anyone who may be searching for these Whelen's. Would be happy to exchange information. - Edmund Whelen, b. approx 1816, location unknown, wife unknown - Son, Walter Whelen, b. 1836, NY, d. 1908, Trenton, NJ - Walter lived in NJ for about 42 years and married Anna (possibly Ronan), b. 1846, NY - Walter and Anna Whelen had 4 children in Trenton, NJ, possibly 7, including: - Annie J., b. 7-27-1866, d. 8-7-1922, Trenton, buried Greenwood Cemetery - Walter J. - Charles M., b. 1873, d. 1925, Trenton, buried Greenwood Cemetery - Ada M. b. 1876 - ? - Also on gravestones are listed: Katie, Rosa and Harry L. Holly Knott in Mercer County, NJ
To Leslie Quist, etal-- Samuel, son of Theophilus married (1) ____Hopkins and (2) Patience Hearndon. He had 10 children: Thomas, Samuel, Paitence, Ann, Theophilus, James, John, Timothy, Jeremiah, and Sarah. I can attach a FGS for this family to you if you so wish. Ruby
To new member Jim Suttles and other WSP members. I work with Jackie Weeden, Whaley genealogist, who has researched Whaleys for 30 years or more. I am entering her Family Group Sheets for all the Whaley families she has. (1000 or so) I hate to be a *repeater*, as we have discussed this before, but... there is a lot of confusion about this Alexander-Leverich family. Someone has confused them with the TN family of William who m Ogle. It is erroneously stated in a website that the father of the William who married Ogle was Alexander who married Abigail Leverich. Maybe that William DID have a father named Alexander, but it is not the one who married Abigail Leverich. Alexander and Leverich never left NY--he was b New London Co CT 1746 and d Kings Co NY 1833. He had a son William L., b NY-d pre 1832. But he is not the one who married Ogle. And Alexander did not have a son Middleton. Alexander and Abigail's children were: William L., David, James, Elizabeth, Sarah L., John, Francis, Thomas, Alexander, Abigail, George Clinton, Susannah, James and Louisa Schute--all b NY. Alexander's second wife was Marie Shute Pollard. Alexander wrote a will about 1832 and in it stated that his son William was deceased and had children David and John. The William who married Ogle died in TN in ?1880? I am sending a Family Group Sheet to Jim Suttles, and it is available to anyone else who wants one. Ruby Nelson for Jackie Weeden.

Hello everyone - I am searching for information on Theophilus (Robert?) Whaley (1616) - Joseph DiOrio [email protected]
Hi--Your Joseph-Breeden sounded familiar, so I went through the file here that I have from Weeden's notebooks, and found the Family Group Sheet (FGS) for this family. I also have a FGS for his father--Joseph and Sophia Hall. We have him as s/o John and Mary____ ??Porter? that came to Pike Co IN with my gr-gr-grandfather William Whaley and first wife Betsy Kinman before 1820. John and Mary moved to nearby Greene Co IN. I can send these FGSs by attachment to the person searching for information. Let me know. Ruby Nelson ([email protected])

Hi all, Merry Christmas! I have assembled a web-site on Whaley related information, specifically Theophilus Whaley and the regicide, Edward Whaley. The site has 52 pages. All that is original to me is the selection and arrangement of the material on the site and pages and the description on the site home page. The material was collected at the Mid Continent Public Library in Independence Missouri a week ago today and from the Family TreeMaker Site in its subscription only area. All material on my Whaley site is either in the public domain or was obtained based on the "fair use" principle of copyright law. ( http://www.rootsweb/com/~mikegoad/copyright1.htm ) The Whaley site is at http://www.rootsweb.com/~mikegoad/whaley.html I've also included it on our home web page at http://www.cswnet.com/~mgoad/ under Whaley sources.
