Still going through old papers I have stashed away and I found this that I received from the library in Snow Hill MD; a list of sources on Whaleys from there. One of them is: "Per FGH The father of Thomas Whaley b.ca 1766 Worcester Co. was Elias Whaley, mother Martha Dale. Batch F838832 (139568 or 1396062) as submitted by Mary Agnes Murdock "records from Bible belonging to Elijah Whaley (printed 1833). Barbara

I have a copy of the IGI for Elijah Whaley that shows Thomas as his father. It was submitted by Mary Murdock. Her e-mail address last year was: [email protected] I don't know if it's the same now because that was when she was away from home caring for her brother. Perhaps she can tell us which of her listed sources pertain to Thomas. For sources she lists: Sixth W.S. census 1840 D-Klb Co., Tenn (GS ser #58611 pt 2081). Seventh W.S. Census 1850 D-Klb Co. Tenn. Whaley fam bible in poss of Thomas G. Webb, Rt.#1, Box 5 Smithville, Tenn 37166. Smith fam bible in poss of Mrs. Paul Williams, 1210 Greenfield Ave. Nashville Tenn. 37261. Hope we can clear up this mystery. Barbara

To Thomas Whaley descendants-- I am glad the researchers we are working with today don't have that old Elias theory on their charts. It was a guess, as there was no proof that Elias was the father of Thomas. LDS helps a lot of people, but there are a lot of mistakes in the their records. Janet, thanks for the data. I got your letter and download and after realigning it, sent a copy on to Weeden. I have a letter ready to send to you. I need to think it over first. Our mail carrier became ill and left my package containing the 19 FGSs that pertain to this family lying in her station for a week It is now finally in the mail on the way to Jackie for approval. (A whole week late!) rlnsd
Thomas's parents have definitely been a challangehaven't they ! I had put Thomas and Margaret's marriage about 1791 because I had the first son's dob as 1792 is this what everyone else has?? ALso, has anyone contacted the person who submitted the Thomas Whaley line to the LDS library ??? just curious if they have been contacted and what they say their source was for Elias being the father of Thomas ??? or whether this was theory on their part ??? I think we determined that ELias was not the father but I had noticed that in the LDS this was what was submitted. (Sorry in advance if this has already been discussed. ) THanks ! Lynne

Does anyone have any information on Jane Whaley, daughter of Frances Cromwell & Richard Whaley? The LDS page has her listed as mother of Susannah Hooke, by her husband William Hooke. Susanna married Edward Darby in 1659 in Boston. This was submitted to the LDS page by 3 different people from widely varied parts of the country. Please let me know if you have anything!

Dear Janet Hunter, etal, So you want to take on Thomas and Margaret's line again?? Good. I have been typing and retyping and retyping FGSs for this family for several months. We are trying to combine data from all sources. Jackie has records from public records, and some of the descendants of this line have been able to fill in blanks from their research. We have 19 FGSs that we have been working on--sons of Thomas and Margaret, and some of their sons and their sons, etc. We have children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in the project, and now Jackie is trying to put FGSs together for two gr gr grandsons. When we feel they are as ready as they can be, I will give Jeane the OK to pass them out. I noticed some differences in the FGS for Thomas and Margaret from what you mentioned in Digest 12. We have him b bet 1756 and 1774/ c. ?1765 ?MD You have b 1772 Worcestor Co MD. What is the source for the exact date and place? You have a marriage date of c. 1790. We have nothing. Need help here. You have Margaret Bratten's mother as Sarah Givan. We do not have that--can you help us with the source for that?? We have his death date as bet 1820 and 1830/ c. 1825 ?TN Can we get these things worked out so all records are compatible?? If you would like to see exactly what the rest of our FGS says, I will be happy to send you a copy by attachment. Naming his parents continues to be a mystery. I have some theories, but that is just what they are. Theories. Since we cannot call him the son of Zedekiah, we have to think of other answers. Ruby
>From Jackie to Frank Fitzgerald: We have a FGS for this family on disk and can attach it to you. I do not know the parents, but one way to find out is to get the State Census record from Dutchess County for 1855 and 1865. They would tell you what county John was born in. Then you could check that county for Whaleys at that time and it might give you some good clues. My FGS notes say that this couple are your Great Great Grandparents. Right?? If you want the FGS, let Ruby know. ( [email protected] )
Jackie is trying to make a FGS for these two orphan brothers. Jeane recently sent some census data re Hugh C. from a Soundex. Does she have the ED# etc. so Jackie can find the original?? Thanks. Ruby
To Jeff and Sheila, etal. In our exchange of materials, we said that the parents of Joseph who married Sophia Hall were John and Mary ?Porter. There are some descendants of this line that FIRMLY believe that this couple is the same as the one we find in early Georgia in Wilkes and Greene County GA. The John there who had wife Mary was very close to Nathaniel, who had wife Agnes. The parents of this John were William and Elizabeth, the first known Whaleys to come to that area--1773. Jackie and I have a book about the early GA Whaleys and one part deals with this William and Elizabeth and their family. We, too, feel that this John and Mary are the same couple. They evidently went to Pike Co IN with Nathaniel's son William and wife Betsy Kinman. But later, John and Mary settled in Greene Co IN. I can copy out pages from our book about this GA line, if Sheila would like it. I will need an address. Sheila, we cannot get your attachment open. Two of us 'computerists' are stumped with this data. Could you send a hard copy to Jackie? If so, let me know and I will give you her address. Jackie and Ruby
Whaley Cousins: I meant to say there was no Isaac Whaley in the 1800 Worcestor Co MD census. I left out the word "No". Janet
My fellow Whaley cousins: I am one of many looking for the parents of Thomas Whaley b. 1772 Worcestor Co Md who married Margaret BRATTEN/BRATTON ca 1790, daughter of Samuel Bratten and Sarah GIVAN (hope I have that right). In sorting through some papers I came across my copy of Whaleys/Wallys in 1790 Worcestor census. There are two: Seth with a passel of children and one presumes wife AND Isaac with 2 males above 16 years and five females. In the 1800 census, there is Isaac, but there is Seth, Thomas and an Elisha Whealer, maybe Whaley??? I don't think I have heard discussion of this Isaac. I know we have eliminated this Seth as father of Thomas but what about Isaac??? Could Thomas be the second male over sixteen? I presume that he has been eliminated as well??? I went through the archives and didn't find anything on him. I note that Thomas & Margaret's son Elijah named a son Isaac. So I am curious?? Who is Isaac? FYI, the 1790 census is online at the Worcestor Md site: Index is here: ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/census/md/worcester/1790/indx-a-z.txt Page-by-Page list is here: ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/census/md/worcester/1790/pg00123.txt Isaac is next to an Alexander Givan on the list. Thanks in advance...Am getting ready to make another go at Thomas. Thank you Ruby & Jackie! I have lots on the McNabb family just can't find Margaret's parents and the only candidates in Washington (where she married Taylor McNabb 30 Jul 1840) and/or Carter Counties TN are John (in 1830) and Matilda (1830 & 1840) in Carter Co TN. Were there any Whaleys in Washington Co TN in 1840?? Margaret's husband, Taylor McNabb, lived in Carter Co TN in 1830 but I can't find him in 1840. He and Margaret lived in Union Co GA from about 1841-sometime between 1853-1856 at which time they moved to Polk Co TN; lived in McMinn Co TN in 1870 until their deaths -- Taylor in 1876 and Margaret in 1889. Jackie -- do you have any suggestions on how I could prove or disprove that Matilda Whaley was the mother of my Margaret? Thanks again.... Dear Lyn, We are Larry Harmon and Carolyn Harmon. My husband is descended from William and Patience Whaley, Lewis Whaley, and then Julia Jane Whaley Ballard, all of Duplin, or Jones NC. I was previously subscribed at my work e-mail: [email protected] The server crashed for several weeks at work, and I could not send or receive e-mail. This also seemed to unsubscribe me from most of the Rootsweb lists that I had subscribed to, including the Whaley list. In the meantime, we got a new computer for Christmas, and have a new e-mail address at home so we subscribed here. The list has been exciting for us, as we met Carmen Lyons, Jaqueline Boykin, and others who are close cousins- all from the children of Lewis Whaley and Anna Turner. My husbands mother remembered playing with Carmen's grandfather when she was a child. We were able to fill in some holes in our family information after talking to her. Ruby and Jackie have also been most helpful. Thanks for all of your help! (I sent this to you, rather than the list, as I sent our line to the list when I first signed up.) Hello Everyone My name is Kari Jo Mulkey-Cook, I am researching Narcissa Mulkey who married DANIEL WHALEY 5th of August 1836 in Jackson Missouri. I do not know much about either one of them I was told by my Mulkey line the information that I have and am trying to find out more about both of them. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated I have been doing research for six years. Never thought about until my grandfather died then my dad got interested because he knows nothing about his family so I decided to do this for him, myself and of course my kids aren't interested but I am hoping one day they or their kids will be. Thanks again and glad to have met you George some people aren't so willing to help.
