I am trying to trace an Alexander Smith BURNETT who emigrated to Barbados in the early 1860's (or late 1850's) and was married (don't know when/where) to a Mary Agnes ALLENDER. They had many children in Barbados, but Mary Agnes died there in 1876 and by 1881 ASB was back in England (London area) working as an actuary, with a new wife and his children also. Was there any pattern of Scots working in Barbados (St Michael) in the 1850/1860 period? He was a professional, an actuary, so I doubt his posting was military, though it could have been government-related. He may have been associated with a banana or other plantation, per family lore.
