Not much info to go on, but checking the book: "The Surnames of Scotland, Their Origin, Meaning and History" by George F. Black, Ph.D.; (Edinburgh, Scotland: Berlinn Limited, 1996); ISBN: 1-874744-83-1 on pp 761-762 is a description of the origins of the Tait surname. The author indicates that the surname is primarily from the Edinburgh area as early as 1362 with a branch in Orkney ca 1575; and concludes by identifying Archibald Campbell Tait (1811-1882), b in Edinburgh who became the Archbishop of Canterbury. Hope this information proves helpful. Have a great day and a better tomorrow. -- See Ya' -- Clyde "Clyde Lapsley"<CLapsley@worldnet.att.net>
