Hi Jim, The first one of my Magill ancestors we know of is Rev. Hugh S. Magill (you're right, it is also spelled McGill which means it takes twice as long to search records because both names must be looked up!) He was a Presbyterian minister from County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, ordained 1753 or 54. He came to Pennsylvania in 1772. What kind of information do you have? I didn't know the Magill/McGill/MacGill/Mcgeil, etc. went so far back. In fact, I don't know much about the Magill name. Thanks. to "cwieland" Just a word of caution that has been put to me. the surname McKill could originate from Magill / McGill, the G and K have much the same sound and most people were illiterate until the 1800's a clerk simply wrote what a name sounded like and different clerks could use different spellings for the same personal name. McKill name originates from Galloway in the south west of scotland. McGill/Mcgeil/Macgill etc. first appeared in 1231, according to Black's "Surnames of Scotland".
