    3. Hi Susan, I'm still confused! Susan Murray and Peter McNeill got married in Fasnacloich 25 Sep 1883, and duaghter Anna was born there. Right? So who was born in Calderbraes? Was it Susan Murray? If so, she can't be the same Susan Murray that I found in the 1881 census, as she gave her birthplace as Stranraer, Wigtownshire. However there are no Susan Murrays listed as born in Bothwell parish or Uddingston village in the 1881 census. The best way to get to the bottom of the mystery is to get a copy of Susan and Peter's marriage certificate. This could be ordered online from www.scotsorigins.org.uk but it might be easier for your aunt and uncle to go to New Register House in Edinburgh when they are here and get it on the spot. I don't know much about the Scots Origins site as I'm in the lucky position of being able to go in person to New Register House. (I've heard something about having to pay upfront to get 30 pages of index downloads in a 24 hour period, and then if you spot your ancestors, you have to pay extra for a copy of the certificate). This seems a bit steep if you are only interested in one couple and one certificate. When your aunt and uncle are in Scotland, they should go to Edinburgh anyway, if only to see the sights: It's a marvellous, picturesque, historic and lively town, well worth the visit. I'd also be glad to meet them and show them around Uddingston (about half an hour required!), take them to Bothwell Casstle (dates from abt the 13th century and is very impressive) and take them to a pub which existed in your forebears' time as an old coaching inn and is still the best-known pub in the village. Hope this helps, Regards, ken Mathieson, Uddingston, Lanarkshire -----Original Message----- From: Chip & Susan Belyea <rbelyea@shentel.net> To: WGW-SURNAMES-SCOTLAND-L@rootsweb.com <WGW-SURNAMES-SCOTLAND-L@rootsweb.com> Date: 18 April 2001 02:32 Subject: Re: info >Dear Ken > >I can't thank you enough for your help.My Uncles and Aunt who are the >children of Anna Murray MACNEILL Kelley and the grandchildren of Susan and >Peter MACNEILL are coming to Scotland in June to see where they came from as >it is their first trip to where their Mom spent the first 16 years of her >life before coming to Pa, USA..
