Hello Lynette, I have one that is earlier: McDougal(l) / McDougald, Mary b. Abt. 1819, d. Aft. 1877 mar. SHIELDS, George b. Abt. 1815, d. Bef. 1877 Mary was born in Borrowstouness, West Lothian Co., Scotland. The 1839 marriage banns spell the name as McDougald. The spelling varies in records. Their daughter, Mary B. (Bartam?) SHIELDS (1841-1908) is my g-grandmother through her second marriage to Thomas Peter Cameron FORBES (1852-1914). This couple emigrated to the United States in 1886, bringing my grandfather as a young boy. Mary B. SHIELDS was born in New Monkland, Lanark. I don't as yet have any further information about Mary McDOUGAL, but of course would love to find her parents and siblings, as well as collateral lines. Hello Noelle I am sorry, I have very little information to go in regards to my Grandfather William MacDougall born in 1898. I do know his fathers name was Donald William MacDougall and he married a Mary McNeil (of course the spelling of McNeil, could be McNeal or ????? ) My grandfather came to New Zealand from Scotland and married my grandmother Margaret Alice Thompson I think roughly in the late 1920's to early 1930's. I never met my grandfather as he died before I was born. I was told his birth certificate was in Sommerset House in Scotland somewhere, but apparently this was burnt down during WW1 or WW2. Lynette If your grandfather William mcDougall was born in Scotland 1898 his birth records will be safely in New Register House in Edinburgh. Somerset House was where the English records were stored , and it was the Irish records which were burned, not Scottish.
