    3. Hi, What is the relevance of Appin, Argyll? Uddingston lies about 10 mile east of Glasgow on the river Clyde in the Parish of Bothwell, while Appin is a village on the east shore of Loch Linnhe, about 120 mile north west of Glasgow. I've checked the 1881 census and there was a Susan Murray aged 21, born Stranraer, Wigtownshire abt 1860 working as a nurse/domestic servant at Wingfield, Bothwell in the home of Edmund Bell and his family. There was also a Peter MacNeill at the Clyde Hotel, Bothwell, son of the owner, Janet McBride. Peter was aged 23, unmarried, occupation Spirit Merchant, born Sandbank, Argyll (5 miles north of Dunoon on the Holy Loch - part of the DFirth of Clyde). If this the right man, there is quite a tribe of siblings and step-siblings (Janet McBride had obviously married at least twice). Are these your people? Regards, Ken Mathieson, Uddingston.
