    3. Hello Colin, I have a John Mackie, from Huntley near Banff, Scotland. He was born about 1782, and eventually ended up in Australia where he followed a variety of careers. He married his 3rd wife in 1834. He was quite a character by all accounts. One of his sons (my great grandfather) changed his name to Mackay, and there is some speculation that John himself may have been a Macky. John called himself Mackie in Sydney and Wooloongong, NSW (according to his children's baptismal details. If anyone knows any more of these Mackay/Mackie/Macky people, I would like to hear from you. Margaret Middleton in Brisbane Looking for: Mc Donald (Dumfries/Vic); Mackie/Mackay (Huntley/NSW/N.Qld) Middleton (Ireland/Scotland/NSW/Qld/India) Guise (Montrose/India/NSW) Mitchell (Vic) Templeton (Ire/Tas/Vic,Scotland) and anyone with "Fancourt" or "Reay" embedded in their name.

    2. I am just beginning to look for my MACKIE ancestors. What I know is the family is listed in the 1870 US Pennsylvania Census. Mathew D. Mackie, his wife Elizabeth PRINGLE MACKIE and their two sons, Mathew and James are living in Lackawanna County, PA, but list their country of origin as Scotland. Birthdates for Mathew and Elizabeth are 5 of 1845 and approximately 1848 respectively. I have no idea from what region in Scotland the family emigrated. If there is an 1861 census, that would be the last one in which either would be listed. If there is anyone on the list who can offer advice or shed some light on this mystery, please contact me. Thank you. Gayle Thorpe Baar Irving, Texas Researching: Davies, Evans, Gibbons, Harris, Hughes, Jones, Mackie, Morrell, Thorpe, Williams
