Hello Clyde, Thankyou for your letter, that is very interesting.In 1999, when I was visiting the book store on the grounds of Edinburgh Castle, I saw a book on Scottish names that said RENNIE was derived from REYNOLDS which came from the French RENAUX. and goes back to the Normans who arrived with William the Conquerer. So who knows, a thousand years from now people will still have a difference of opinion on where their names came from.It seems to me, the most likely answer is, years ago most people could not write, let alone spell and everyone who did write it down spelled it the way they thought it should be.
