    3. Hi Pam: At 03:03 AM 3/28/01 -0500, you wrote: >am interested in any RENNEY, RENNY, RENNIE. Anyone else doing that >family?? Love to hear from you. Checking in the book "The Surnames of Scotland, Their Origin, Meaning, and History" by George F. Black, Ph.D., (Edinburgh, Scotland: Birlinn Limited, 1996); ISBN: 1-874744-83-1 on p 689, the reference for "RENNIE, Renny" says that the names are "variants of RAINY". On p 680, the rather short description for the names of "RAINY, RAINEY, RAINNIE, RENNIE, RENNY" are "* * * double diminutives or pet forms of Reynold, * * *" which is further described as "* * * a vocalized form of Reginald * * *". The article further identifies the "Raynys or Rennys" as holding lands in "Craig in Angus" from the mid 15th century. Also mentions John Rennie (1761-1821) as a famous engineer born in East Lothian. The author also referred to "RANNIE" and "RAINALDSTON". Checking on "RAINALDSTON" reveals that the name apparently came from the town of Rhenaldstown "(now Rennieston on the map)". The name "RANNIE" is identified on p 684 and describes several more variant spellings, some of whom (Rannie, Reanie) were in the Edinburgh area from 1636 to ca 1737. You might also check the Scottish Church Register's at the local branch of the LDS Family History Center there in Mesa. My cousin informs me that they have a rather extensive microfilm library there. Hope the above information proves helpful. Have a great day and a better tomorrow. -- See Ya' -- Clyde "Clyde Lapsley"<CLapsley@worldnet.att.net>
