Hi Lois: A good place to start is doing a 'google' search. Just type in 'duke of argyll' at the site below and you will find a lot of sites to explore further: http://www.google.com/ Regards, Allan Wands Toronto lois Campbell wrote: > My family lines go back to the Duke of Argyll > in Scotland. Hi Ray, I can't help re: PATERSONs in Scotland, but there was a PATERSON family who, I believe, farmed on the outskirts of York in the 1940s and 50s. There daughter, Pamela, was at school with me there. Just in case this helps at all. Actually it's Ian, not Ray, but I know your intentions were good. :-) I was looking for PATERSONs in the late 1890s in the Aberdeen region. It is possible that you were replying to another query, but as far as my PATERSON line is concerned, York is a bit far away and as far as I know does not figure in this line. Thanks again. I am at a standstill on my Lyons family. Family legend says that my gggrandfather, Oscar M. Lyons, came from Scotland with his family, and that his parents died on the voyage over. I found him in the 1870 census, where he says his place of birth is Ohio. Then I found his son, William, in the 1910 census. He lists his father's place of birth as West Virginia. I am so confused, I don't know where to look next. I know Oscar was born in 1849 and married in Douglas co. Ks in 1873 to Polly Lampson. He died in Ks 1930. I know nothing of parents, siblings etc. If this sounds familiar, or if you have any suggestions on where to go next I would really appreciate hearing from you. Thank you, Lisa Lyons Turner

Hello; Another newbie on the list here. I had a grandfather, George PATERSON who emigrated to Canada in the mid to late 1890s from the Aberdeen area. Is there any web site or group doing any work on PATERSON on this list? Any assistance would be appreciated. Sincerely Ian Brumell Cloyne, Ontario. Ca
Hello, I am new to this list and am researching the names DAVIDSON & JARDINE. My ancestor Robert Davidson married Helen Jardine in 1840 in Hawick, Roxburgh. A short time later they came to Canada and settled in southern Ontario. Corinne Ottawa, Canada
Janelle Thank you so much for the site. I did not realise that there was one. Have a good day and Thanks Lois
Hello Betty Argyll is a county and I don't think there is a town of Carmichael anywhere in Scotland. I think your Carmichael ancestor would have lived on the Estate of the Earl of Breadalbane. My family lines go back to the Duke of Argyll in Scotland. Is there a site that I can access to get more information on him? Thanks so much.
Dear Kay Liney, Thank you for the info. Every little bit helps. After reading your note I am now thinking that the Carmichael who wrote the letter was misinformed abt. our WM. Carmichael being an Earl of Breadalbane Castle before coming to N.E. Eng. Perhaps he was from that area. I am sorry I do not have a map of Sct. as yet. Can you tell me if Argyll is a county and is the town of CARMICHAEL in the Breadalbane area? With the little info. I have, I think my ancestors came from Sct. to Newcastle, Eng. in the 1600`s. Hello I have been on holiday and only saw your messages today. The Earl of Breadalbane was a Campbell and owned land in the West of Perthshire and Argyll. Breadalbane is the name of the area the Campbells owned and Taymouth is the name of their castle although perhaps when your ancestors were in the area it was called Balloch. Greetings! I am seeking information on William (S.?) TAGGART. He was born circa 1765 and presumably in Scotland. Most likely at that time the name was Mac Taggart or Mc Taggart. He immigrated to the United States and I have located him in the very early 1800's in Madison County, New York. I would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone with a possible family connection or anyone who might have suggestions on how I should proceed to determine his origin and parentage. I have additional information on this family from early 1800 and forward that I would be happy to share. My thanks in advance for your time in reading this and to anyone who is able to offer help.
