Susan, You are doing a great job. Do you know you can write the cemetery and they will give you a copy of all the funeral arrangements for buriel, same with the funeral home. Send them a SASE. I have done it alot. Gives info and costs little. Hi, Viki, Thanks for the prompt response. This IS hard work! I have already researched all of the sites that you generously shared. It seems my ancestors were quiet! My great grandparents, susan and peter macneill were born in Scotland and arrived in Johnstown around the 1900-1915 time period. I know that they are buried there and i have dates so I am going to try obtaining the death certificates from the division of vital records in New castle unless you think that Ebensburg would be better but I have no contact number or address for that. Thanks for all of your help. Susan, I am not living in Johnstown at the present time, but all of my family is. We hail from Scotland also. Donaldson, Russell, and a few other names. My family came over from the Falkirk/Kilsyth area and settled in Johnstown. I will be back there in a few weeks to spend time with my mother. Do you have any of the dates of death so you can obtain death certificates? Also, if any of your relatives were in the military, you should be able to get copies of pension records. Many times these records list the names of spouse and children in them. There is a Mormon church library in Johnstown also. If you ever get back there it is in Richland. There is a great Johnstown, Pa web site that I found recently. It lists a lot of the cemeteries and their occupants. You may be able to find some more relatives this way. The web site is WWW.Pa-roots.com. This is the order you use to get to the site. www.PA-roots.com Go down to the PAGenWeb project and click on it. Go down to the county links and click on Cambria Then, go to cemeteries. There are several St. John's, so you will have to look at them all. I searched all of the cemeteries in the site and found a lot of my relatives. I hope this helps you. Do you live near PA now? I live in Indiana. Let me know how you make out. If your births occurred before 1904, you can get info at the Cambria COunty Courthouse in Ebensburg. They have a register there that I have used. Vicki

Hi, vicki Do you live in Johnstown now? I am a REAL novice in genealogy research and find that I am spinning my wheels. There are no living relatives to inquire of that can remember anything this far back. I know that my great grandparents are buried in St. Johns cemetary(RC) in Johnstown as I was there two weeks ago and found the gravestone.I also know that they were born in Scotland and imigrated to Johnstown around1900-1910 but then things get muddy. I would like to obtain copies of their death certificates so that I can find out their parents name and be able to go back one more generation. I will probably be able to obtain them from the county seat? Any help or knowledge woiuld be appreciated. Chip & Susan, They did not show on the 1910 census, maybe because they got there after it was taken. But the 1920 census you have to pay to get into. And I don't belong. I am trying to find out more about my maternal grandmother's family line and wondered if some kind listers could help? Her maiden name was GLOAG and I have traced the line back to Andrew GLOAG born 1761. He died on 21st June 1844 at Linstock near Carlisle. A story I have been told is that 'he came down from the hills with the young pretender' but how true that is I don't know. He must have then settled down as he married Agnes GORDON on 2nd September 1793 and they had at least seven children. I've not been able to go back any further nor follow along other GLOAG lines very far. Does anyone have any links to the name or can tell me anything about the origin of the name GLOAG; another stonewall I have come up against. After Scotland the family slowly moved south through Yorkshire, Watford, Wembley and finally Kent where I now live. Any help would be much appreciated. Nick Leppard

HI, That's funny. I mailed it on April 12 to NS-CAPE-BRETON-L@rootsweb.com. I see now you didn't send your e-mail to me, rather to the list. Mine was for CAMPBELLS and MACINTOSHES. Can you pick it up? I'm not too good with a computer and genealogy. Joy
