My family is from Rathumney as well. In the 1901 census that I have completed there are 33 households where the head of house has a surname Delaney and another 25 house where Delaneys are listed as residents. Maybe you can find some name connections. Not sure I follow your dates, if Joanna and Ellen 32 in 1901 are sisters then Michael father would be 6 when Ellen was born if he was born in 1860.
