Hi Cyril, I do hope I haven't mislead anyone: I will quote EXACTLY what I have got here on this form, I have a feeling it is something to do with Griffiths Valuations; Quote:- 24061875 DOYLE ELIZABETH LAWRENCE MARY MURPHY MONAGRENA from which I gleaned that my grandmother's father was Lawrence Doyle, married to Mary Murphy living at the Townland of Monagrena. I believe these to be copies of DOYLE baptisms taken from the registers of Moanagear Roman Catholic Parish( I have just found the 3 year old email!!!) Celestine at the Wexford Library also told me that the Townland they were living at was probably Monagreany Lower and that the Catholic Curacy was Monageer. So I don't know where 'Monagrena' came from!! Can you sort that one out?!!! My conundrm is that it seems MURPHYs were living at what I thought was my ancestral Townland of Ballytracey, but as Celastine suggested, the DOYLEs were next door at Monagreany Lower and when Laurence married Mary Murphy they moved in to Ballytracey: esp. as the marriage cert shows them both living at Ballytracey. I know that townland was in my family's possession until about 20 years ago. I am trying to find the wife of Edward Doyle, who was father of my Laurence and the wife of Patrick Murphy who was father to Mary.( the marriage was at Boolavogue Catholic Chapel on June 9th 1874) Thanks for your interest. Tina
One cannot help but use the information they have Tina. Unfortunately we all make mistakes when transcribing information even me! We can only go on what we have in the first place. I wouldn't worry about it as someone somewhere will pick up on it and we always try to offer the alternative. Even then, we can be wrong in doing that. I get confused myself sometimes in the fact that one of our local Townlands here (one in which I lived in fact), has three different signs put up by the County Council, all spelling the village three different ways! How they managed that one I don't know? I must feel sorry for the people who don't know the area or are trying to map read. slan Cyril Newsome Loch Garman ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, March 20, 2006 8:18 PM Subject: Re: [WEX] Doyle > Hi Cyril, > I do hope I haven't mislead anyone: I will quote EXACTLY what I have got here > on this form, I have a feeling it is something to do with Griffiths > Valuations; > Quote:- > 24061875 DOYLE ELIZABETH LAWRENCE MARY MURPHY MONAGRENA > from which I gleaned that my grandmother's father was Lawrence Doyle, married > to Mary Murphy living at the Townland of Monagrena.
