I am in Dublin heading back to US tomorrow am. I now have all the Furlongs Baptised in Wexford plus ones in Cantwell's Memorials plus every other Furlong I could find mentioned anywhere that were available. When I get home, I'll look thru and see what I have Bruce's Catherine Furlong and her father. I got all this material for a Furlongs in Wexford book/database to go along with my upcoming Furlongs in Newfoundland book/database. THe County library in Wexford is the BEST!!! Celestine Rafferty is back there with her 30+ years of experience [she started as an infant ;o)] I did get some info from nice people in the New Ross library and nothing but nice people in Enniscorthy library. The rules are pia in Nat'l Lib in Dublin but the people were great once they realized I wasn't kidding when I started having severe health problems after going up and down stairs 4 times. One of their librarians was Justin Furlong. The librarians suggested I go over to the Heraldic Office cause I could get great color copies of manuscripts. They did let me make camera copies of stuff newer than 1880. Yes, the Archive's Heraldic Office's Genealogy archives has great stuff but what a PIA. Seems the head of the office must approve any copying request for genealogical material/mss but he's on 'holiday' and won't be back for a few weeks. Of course, the man REFUSES to delegate permission. Some of the stuff they wouldn't let me copy in the archive reading room were current books dated from the 1990s-2004 that are out of print which were only lists of sources of information! I was practically in tears when I left there today. Most of the stuff they have are from the 1200-1800's and when written in English, were often written in a fancy old script. If I had been able to camera or machine copy them, I could've consulted with people in US for translation. I filled out forms for the Genealogical Office to send copies to me when the Heraldic manager comes back. The few requested copies will be mailed to me in a month or so. First they'll email what the cost is and then get my credit card info via email. When I copy stuff for working with at home, I take a pic of the title page, copyright page as well as the desired material so I can make a proper citation. If it's just a small section, I blow it up to be sure I get it good. Hope I can put the source and the material together when I get them. Funnily, I don't have to touch the page when I camera copy but when I transcribe I'm having to touch it and use stuff to hold me place! I did transcribe several pages into my computer. I estimate that the 4 pgs of data I typed cost me $300 because I had to spend an extra day there to do it. I will prob take me up to a year to computerize all the data and be able to match up families into trees but am willing to take a look-see for any Furlong. judy Nags Head, NC ________________________________ Message: 1 Date: Thu, 2 Jul 2009 09:51:25 +1000 From: Bruce Edmonds <bruces_genealogy@hotmail.com> Subject: [WEXFORD] EDMONDS born Wexford 1825-33 Good morning Can anybody kindly assist me in finding the birth of my GreatGrandfather and / or his family members?
