    3. Hi Eileen! I'm not sure I sent this bit to you or not. I recall your note below telling me that you have a Stafford that was a ship's captain. I'm still working on trying to pin down my great-grandmother Margaret Stafford and with help from you and others I seem to making some progress. The name place of Ballyvarig was great and substantiates her obituary that stated she was from Ballyvarig. Recently I went back and looked at the 1870 for Margaret Stafford and found such a person, whether she is my Margaret Stafford I am just not sure. The 1870 census says that Margaret was 21 years of age, which appears close to other data I have for her. For instance her obit says she was 34 in 1884 when she died. Margaret was listed as a servant and she lived in the 12th Ward in Baltimore City. The head of the household looks like "Fay" but I'm not sure. Anyway the name doesn't mean anything to me. Recently too, a subscriber to the Baltimore Roots web published directions to a number of Baltimore City Directories. There was free access to a 1864 directory so I took a look and she wasn't there. I think you know that my Kehoe family arrived in the US using the name Flynn because their father died and their mother remarried a John Flynn and all the children adopted the name Flynn. Well, there were some Flynns (my Kehoes) and I found a reference to my Great-grandfather Edward (Kehoe) Flynn, my great-great-grandmother Mary Flynn, and possibly Edward's sister Catherine and his brother James. There were a number of John Flynns (Kehoe) but I couldn't sort out if any was Edward's brother John. I also found a Samuel Lewis. A Samuel Lewis married Edward's sister Catherine Flynn (Kehoe). Samuel was a mariner just like Catherine's brothers. A Samuel Lewis also served with Edward Kehoe during the Civil War. I remember you saying you had a Stafford that was a ship's captain. Well, there was a Capt. Wm. J. Stafford who was listed as a mariner. He lived at 159S. Broadway. I was wondering if this person was related to you? I don't have access to all the directories that were listed and some required subscriptions, but there were also a few others that are free and I'll check those later. I was just wondering about this Capt Stafford-is he your Capt Stafford? Regards! 3. Sorry for the delay in replying but I've been away on holiday. No, my Captain was Patrick and although he came from the Fethard area he lived in Wexford town during his working life.
