Hi Peggy, Yes I have the certificate which states "Married in the Registrar's Office" provision of the Act 7th & 8th Victorian Cap 81(?) .? Marriage solemnised at the Registrar's Office, town of Gorey, District of Gorey, April 7th, 1866, William Fitzsimons to Susan Barrington.? Is it possible Susan Barrington was born in England and not native born?? I'm not sure what this Act entailed.? Hope someone on the list can help.? Regards, Joan L. Well, I'm no genealogist.? Not even much of a researcher, but I have a good logical mind. Does it show an actual marriage, or a record of a marriage, located at the Registrar's Office of Roscommon? I have lots of Arklow people registered (mandatory a/o about 1864-65) to marry, and marrying a couple of days later in Arklow R.C. Church....like getting one of our US marriage licenses, I presume.? I suppose, also, that there might have been a J. of P., just like we have, for civil marriages.? Arklow people registered their marriages in the Registrar's Office in Rathdrum. Other than my two cents, I don't know much about such proceedings. ? Best regards, Peggy ? In a message dated 7/31/2009 7:31:12 P.M. He was the older brother to my husbands gr grandfather Martin Fitzsimmons.? I received the cert. in the mail today. He died July 6, 1941 and is buried at St. Colomba's Catholic Cemetery outside of Newport in Middletown, RI.? He was listed as 76 years of age making him the older brother as stated in the 1930 census for Newport.? His birth date would be about June, 1865.? His parents are lised as William Fizsimmons (Fitzsimons) and Susan Barrington, so this is an older child of theirs that was not listed in the records you have.? It is possible he was born out of wedlock or that they were in a different parish when they had him.? Their marriage record shows a marriage at the Registrar's office of Roscommon....perhaps an earlier marriage in her Church of Ireland?? What is your thought on this? I have CC'd to Joyce, a Barrington researcher in Ireland. Thanks for any insights.? Regards,? Joan L. Fitzsimmons Hi Peggy, Thanks for this information.? I will contact Newport Co, RI City Clerk and see how I can go about getting a deathe certificate for the mystery John Fitzsimmons and see if it might have his parents' names listed.? I will also try to contact Fr. O'Brien.? I really appreciate all your help.? Best Regards,? Joan PS I show a James Nowlan and Sarah Redmond as witnesses at William and Susan B. I have one Martin Fitzsimmons who married Catherine Mordant - 18 January 1825, in the R.C. Church in Kilanerin, Witnesses were John Mordant and James Murphy.? that might be a fit. I suspect Kilanerin was the bride's parish, as I have a Mary Mordant in my line, from the same area. I have none of their children Baptized in the Kilanerin Church records, and I have the complete records on digital, up until 1845.? They might have lived somewhere else after they married. I have no connection to any Fitzsimmons.? I research for Weadock/Weadick/Waddick/Wadock in Co. Wicklow and Kinsella/Redmonds in Co. Wexford.? I'm a good typist, and it's as easy for me to type everything, as it is to?stop....look for something I might use and typing just that.? It's become an obsession. ? Hope this Martin is yours, Peggy p.s.? the Priest in the Kilanerin Church is Fr. O'Brien, if you want to contact him.? I had no luck with him, but everyone else seems to be pleased with their contacts. ? ? ? In a message dated 7/19/2009 7:46:36 A.M. I suspect a prior marriage would explain the "brother" on the Census.? I looked at all the John Fitzsimmons I have but they were all about 10 years younger.? It is possible to find out, now that you know the others were Baptized in Ballyoughter, and the residence of William and Susan.? And Catherine is definitely Kitty.? My mother was a Kitty/Catherine. You could contact the GRO in Dublin (General Registrar's Office).? They would have marriages from 1864 to present.? Or, you can contact the Church in Ballyoughter, or Ballymena(?) If you could get their marriage record it would give you both fathers' names, and I can look under that name, for William's information. Do you want all my Fitzsimmons records?? There might be something in them that might shed some light. I'll be happy to send them to you. ? Peggy/New York Where are you located? ? ? In a message dated 7/18/2009 12:00:42 P.M. He died there April 23, 1943 and was buried at St. Colomba's Catholic Cemetery in Middletown,?RI-----just outside of Newport, RI. Now here is a mystery for you!? Is it possible that William was married prior to Susan?? The reason I ask is that in the Newport US census there is a John Fitzsimmons who emigrated to Newport, RI in 1888.? He lives with my Martin at different times over the years.? He never married.? He was born abt. 1864 and died July, 1941.? He is buried at the Fitzsimmons family plot along with Martin.? John is listed as a "brother" to Martin in the 1930 US Census.? Any ideas on this John?? I appreciate any insight you might have. Best Regards,? Joan L.
