    3. I also answered Martha's message, but I inadvertently chose Reply instead of Reply All. My great nth grandfather Anthony Rudd left Clone, Co. Wexford in 1816, to go to Landsdowne/Gananaque, Ontario, Canada. He took his family with him. Sometime in the past few months I found a letter of intent to leave Ireland posted on one of these genealogy lists. I thought it was this one because, as I remember, it was all Wexford families. Although I knew Anthony Rudd left Wexford in 1816, I didn't know he was part of a *mass* exodus and I was surprised to find his name on the list. I saved that list somewhere on my hard drive, but don't have time to hunt for it right now. I do know he was a farmer in Clone, and he was a farmer in Canada. I also know the tiny settlement, right on the St. Lawrence Seaway and the gateway to the Thousand Islands, was filled with Irish and Scots immigrants. My great grandfather Rudd married a Scots descendent. They ultimately moved to Grand Rapids, MI, at the end of the 19th century and I ended up a US citizen. The letter of intent to leave didn't have any clues as to why they were leaving, as I recall. I have always thought he probably left because he was a younger son and there wasn't enough land for him if he remained since he was clearly a farmer and nothing else would do. The Scots family in to which my great grandfather married were lumbermen and farmers. I've visited the homesteads in Canada which is a shining light in my life. I met distant cousins. But, I believe I have more still in Wexford, if I can ever get there. Hoping to go this coming summer.
