    3. I have a list from the GRO here and on it they list the following: 5. Payment : ChequesPostal orders etc should be made payable to THE REGISTRAR GENERAL All fees quoted above are in irish Pounds/Punts (IR£ or IEP) and Euro 6; Foreign Applications - Fees are payable in Iish Pound currency, Draft I.E.P. or Euro made payable to the Registrar general. We also accepyt Sterling cheques, postal orders, US$ cheques Republic of ireland Applications: Fees are payable in irish currency, Irish Cheque, Postal order, Money Order or Euro made payable to the Registrar general and in case anyone decides to ask: Birth cert: £5..50 (6.98 Euro) Extra copies: £4 or 5.08 Euro All other certs except short form birth cert same prices This looks like they will accept US$ cheques made out to the sum of 5.50. A photocopy of an entry will cost £1.50 or 1.90 Euro. one thing to remember is this - our banks don't seem to charge such high conversoin rates as those figures I've seen quoted as here.....I can't remember the exact figures... I get the impression from this Ruesch figure here that it is standard......doesn't matter how many pounds/punts you want to buy - the rate is this? The banks here charge commission...so - the smaller the amount being exchanged the smaller the commisision charged and vice versa. It may be 10%.....and maybe the GRO has this taken into account when requests are being made of them, plus - they have to put stamps on envelopes.... All these items I'm thinking of as I type..... Maybe some others can comment on hidden charges that may be there - Jane ----- Original Message ----- From: "Peter & Elizabeth Pidgeon" <peter_pidgeon@bigpond.com> To: <WEXFORD-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: 10 March 2000 06:27 Subject: Re: [WEX] Irish Pound Draft Fee > Milli, > > Open yourself an Irish Cheque account with the Bank of Ireland.
