    3. Are there any Irish speakers on the list? I have a puzzle. The place name is Ballyskeagh. How would it be pronounced, phonetically, today and how would it have been pronounced in Irish 200 years ago. I'm trying to figure out where in Ireland an ancestor came from if they verbslly said is was "Billings Cake." There is no such spelling, or anything close, listed in the Index of Townlands. The location is Co. Down, where I understand little or no Irish is/was spoken but I could be wrong on that. My wild guess is that Ballyskeagh may have sounded like Billings Cake to the person who was writing down what the emigrant said. Anyway, I would be most grateful for any help given. This is becoming an obsession with me <GRIN> Shirley N.
