Hi all... I was just going over some of my Webster material and noticed that the eldest son of Samuel John BEST and Barbara WEBSTER was named Samuel Godkin BEST. I know that Samuel John BEST came from the northern part of Ireland and I don't know if the name GODKIN is a common surname in County Armagh. Ireland, but it is in Wexford. I think maybe Barbara named her eldest son after Samuel John BEST and used her mother's surname as his middle name. I am wondering if this might be the elusive surname of Elizabeth who married Thomas WEBSTER in Wexford about 1800 or so. Elizabeth was born about 1774 in the Gorey area. Her family were protestant. Does anyone have an Elizabeth GODKIN? A family story has her crossing a field strewn with dead soldiers during the Rebellion of 1798 with her maid.
