    3. As a new subscriber I wish to introduce myself. My grandfather, Thomas Geoghegan, is first recorded in Liverpool, England, by his marriage certificate in 1888, where he gave his age as 28 (born 1860), his father as James, deceased, a "soldier". He is further recorded in Gores Directory, also 1888, as a pawnbroker's assistant in Liverpool. In the UK 1891 Census he gives his place of birth as Wexford. He is not recorded in the 1881 Census and therefore it appears he left Ireland between 1881 and 1888. He died, in Liverpool, powerful 4th in 1940. His family, from a second marriage in 1895 to Annie Maria Cowan, was my father, Edwin Thomas( 1896 to 1985) , Sidney ( 1906- 1969), Lesley (1899 to 1918), Kathleen (1903 to 1957) and Nora (1900 to 1982). Records at PRO Kew have been searched for the soldier James and six "possibles" were identified but no positive connection could be established.Other searches of BDM for armed forces overseas have revealed nothing. No marriage was found in the Irish GRO Index for non Catholic marriages from 1845 to 1862. All James Geoghegans listed in the Irish GRO deaths index between 1864 and 1891 have been extracted, but no "soldier" identified in registration copies so far. County Wexford Heritage and Genealogy Society have found no parish register entries for either James or Thomas in their computerised records. As you can see, despite some effort, no real progress has been made and I would deeply appreciate any contribution to my unyielding search. Sid Geoghegan
