Obituaries - Limerick Chronicle - 2nd Jan 1850 At Egmont Villa, Kanturk, on Thursday morning, at the advanced age of 90, Dorothea Julia, relict of the late Mathew Blood Smyth, of Castle Fergus, county of Clare, Esq., and great grand-daughter of Dr. Smyth, formerly Bishop of Limerick, and grand niece to Dr. Smyth,formerly Archbishop of Dublin. At her house in Henry street, Mrs. Alice Gromwell, aged 88. A lady eminent for her piety, and of whom it may be justly said that her life was spent in the practice and performance of every Christian virtue. At Cheltenham, on the 28th Dec. of decline, Mary Anne, the beloved wife of George Rogers, Esq., of this City, after a long and painful illness, in the 32nd year of her age. At Salt Hill, Galway, in his 52nd year, the Very Rev Joseph W. Kirwan, D.D. President of the Queen's College, Galway. His remains were removed for interment to Outerard, of which he was Parish Priest. On the 1st inst., at his residence, Sandylane, near Boher, in this County, to the inexpressible grief of his family and friends, John Ryan, at the very advanced age of 90 years. Mr. Ryan was for many years High Constable of the barony Coonagh, in this County, and, from an early period of his life, agent to the several estates in the counties of Limerick, Clare, and Tipperary, of the late Thomas G. Fitzgibbon, Esq., and the late Rev. John Digby, of Ladenstown, and his successor; and always treated the tenantry over whom he had control, leniently, while he gave general satisfaction to the kind and benevolent proprietors for whom he acted. In Dublin, the Rev. Willoughby Burrell, M.A. where arrived on his way to Ardfert Abbey, on a visit to his brother-in-law, Mr. Crosbie. He was son of the late Hon. Lindsey Burrell, of Stoke Park, Suffolk. On the 22nd ult., at his residence, Coolruss in this County, Mr. John Carroll, after a long and tedious illness, which he bore with Christian patience. His demise is deservedly regretted by his afflicted widow and a large circle of sorrowing friends, who will long lament his loss. Martin Silver, Esq., of O'Brien's Castle. At his residence, near Castle-Connell, of paralysis, Mr Patrick Corbett - to the regret of his family and friends. At Dominick-street, Galway, at an advanced age, Mary, relict of the late John Joyce, Esq., of the Wood Quay. At Kinsale, in the 78th year of her age, Christiana, relict of the late Richard Hall Lewis, Esq. Dec. 26, at his residence, Teltown, near Kells, Hamlet Garnett, Esq., leaving children to deplore the best of fathers. Arthur Burgh Crofton, Esq., of Roebuck Castle. At Queenstown, Henry Stanistreet, Esq. Of fever, Elizabeth V. Becher, daughter of Edward Becher, Esq., late of Rock Castle, county Cork. Mr. Cornelius Murphy, many years Sheriff's bailiff. At Arboe Glebe, Sarah Elizabeth, wife of the Rev. Thomas MacNeece, D.D. and Archbishop King's Lecturer in Divinity in the University of Dublin. At Sion Chapel House, Wexford, the Rev. Nicholas Furlong, P.P. Crossabeg. In Maryborough, Mrs. Eliza Higgins. At Waterford, Mr. Matthew Jones.
