I am still searching for information about my gfather's family in Ireland. William John MANLEY joined the army in 1884 in Kinsale and did not return to Ireland after that. His military record gives his birthdate as 1862 and his place of birth as Castleknock. We understand there is no RC parish record of a MANLEY or MANLY born there for some years around that date. It seems likely that it was simply a place he remembered from his earliest years. His record gives his parents names as John and Bridget. The record indicates John to have lived in Castleknock and to have died in July 1889. We can find no record of his death at that time, so it may simply have been the date he heard of his fathers death. His next of kin is then recorded as his mother Bridget living at 5 East James Street, Dublin. We have so far not been able to locate the registration of the death of Bridget with any certainty, but the contenders are: Bridget Manley DQ1 1894 Rathdown aged 59 Bridget Manley DQ41894 Rathdown aged 56 Bridget Manley DQ4 1901 Ballina aged 74 Bridget Manley DQ3 1902 Limerick aged 61 Bridget Manly DQ11908 Dublin s aged 60 Bridget Manley DQ! 1911 Cork aged 83 The Bridget Manly seems unlikely since she would have been only 14 or 15 at the time of William's birth. Any links out there? Brian Manley
