I'm trying to educate myself a bit on how to research in Ireland. The problem is... what I know and what current reality is don't match up. I have some info from a family history: A man name Brewer, writing in 1825, noted that : Horetown... was formerly the seat of the Furlong family ... [This] family founded here in the 14th century a monastery for Carmelite, or White Friars... At the dissolution the friary was granted to Sir John Davis, from whom... the property passed to the Goff family, who have residence at Horetown, situated on an eminence in the midst of plantations. William H. Jeffery, writing in 1965, observed that "this is the present Horetown house now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Young. The exact position of the Carmelite friary is now unknown. Two 13th century castles were occupied by the Furlongs, one a Polehore and the other at Horetown. * *William H. Jeffrey, "The Furlongs of County Wexford," Journal of Old Wexford Society, #6, 1976-77, Wexford, Ireland, p. 75. My question is concerning where the present location of the old Horetown is located. If I could figure out where old Horetown is, I might be able to determine which parish to *start* looking for an Andrew Furlong (b. 1805-1810.) Or, maybe and marriage record for an Andrew Furlong and Anna around 1840. Any help or research tips would be greatly appreciated.
