    3. Brand new on this group, but far from being brand new in searching out the Carten family. Over the generations, the story of how my ancestors got into Connecticut has been passed on etc....how true is it? Dunno........ Hugh Carten, b.1829 Wexford Co., came across to Canada, probably Montréal in 1845 as his beloved girlfriend, Catherine Bulger who had emigrated with her family, let Ireland for a new life. distraught beyond words, Hugh caught he next steamer and caught up with his beloved Catherine. In the meantime, his father...who I am searching for....was so mad that he sent son No.2 over to stop a possible marrige, reason with Hugh and bring him back. Son No.2, was Daniel or James, my direct ancestor, and much to the old man's surprise, Daniel/James found this side to his liking, and never returned. Hugh married and moved to Waterbury and then to Bridgeport, Conn. where he took u ppermanent residance, as did his brother. Being good Cartens, a fight broke out and my bunch moved to Stratford, the neighborig town...neither having anything to do with the other. Now, I a mtrying to find who this ill-tempered father was who remained in Wexford, and his wife. There are today descendants of another brother of Hugh's who live in Kilthomas, a lady married to a Doheny....Any help with this will be appreciated..... Shamelessly accepting genealogical handouts.....Jim Carten, Québec City, Canada.
