Hi All, I am new to this list and would like to post my surname interest. I have hit a brickwall with my 2xgreat-grandfather Peter Joseph STAFFORD (known as Joseph). I believe he was born in Wexford, Wexford in about 1841 and that his father Peter STAFFORD was a tailor. His mother's name was Mary WHITTY/WHITLY. According to family members Joseph was involved in the Crimean War as a "powder monkey". This would mean that he had probably left home by the time he was 13-14 years of age. By 1866 he was living in Queensland, Australia where he lived and worked, always in some capacity associated with the sea.
