Hi Eileen. I'm sorry it too me so long to reply to you. I haven't had much luck with Mary Ann Chapman...there are so many of them. The closest thing I could find was an entry in the 1900 US census. I'll send you the information off-List. I wish I could have found more for you. I post here again after a year in case anyone catches this and knows a connection. Family tradition is that the ROE family lived in Wicklow. I have one registration that gives Wexford as a birth place. Since this is more than the ususal 'Ireland" I can only dismiss it as a registrar's mistake or there is some validity. JOHN ROE married MARY ANN KEELEY about 1830-1840. Robert, the first known son was born about 1840. Followed was Nicholas, Julia, John, Elizabeth, and Edward. They emigrated to Canada as an intact family about 1857. They are Anglican. They have a crown land grant in Ontario. Mary Ann Keeley had at least two sisters, Julia and Bridget. Julia and Bridget emigrate to Boston apparently on their own about 1850. I believe that there is another sister who married WILLIAM IRELAND. That sister died before 1880. Wm and that sister had two children, Frederick William and Emily Frances before 1877. Wm. emigrated to Connecticut by 1880 alone. The children must have stayed back with a relative and themselves emigrated to New York in 1888. Could Robert, son of John and Mary Ann, been born in Wexford. Family tradition is so firmly set as them living in Enniskerry, Cty Wicklow. Help!!! Bonnie in California

Their children were: John T Sinnott, Marjorie (Sinnott) Dellamonica Dorothy A(Sinnott) Winterhalder Martin J (or Morton) of Los Angeles and Nick of Eureka When Nick died he left his children, 11 gradnchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Nick may have had uncles by the names of Patrice, and James, and an aunt named Alice. Sinnott. I'm telling this information in hopes that someone will connect, but also to learn if anyone has any information about this family before they immigrated from Co Wexford to USA. Who were John Sinnotts parents and sibblings, did they marry, to whom, did they immigrate etc and basically same information for Elizabeth White. Sorry to be so long winded here. barbara

Thank you Terry. I'm not sure which of the Chapmans or Dalys went from Co. Wexford to St. Louis (or St. Paul) just that we had relatives there. I wish to connect with anyone researching the family of Thomas Finlen (1815-1909) and Elizabeth Lacy (1815-1897) who emigrated to Ontario Canada in 1851 and then to Michigan USA around 1886. Both Thomas and Elizabeth were born in County Wexford Ireland and married in County Wexford around 1844. Sons Patrick (b. 1845), Miles (b. 1847), and John (b. 1850) were all born in County Wexford. I hope someone has located this couple in County Wexford. I am trying to confirm or rule out that I am the descendant of a brother or cousin of Thomas. George Findlen findleng@tds.net

I was actually luck with the 1880 since Sister was listed with her full name, so no problem with that census. Hello Patti, I have the Catholic records for Gorey and also Kilanerin, Ballyoughter, etc. some of the Churches used before 1845, when the Gorey Church was built. I can't find any records for Nicholas Fitzpatrick and Ellen Mitten. But I have a William Fitzpatrick married to a Margaret Kavanagh who had a daughter Ellen and son Nicholas (first borns) in 1875 and 1876, both Baptized in the R.C. Church in Ballyoughter. Their residence was given as Ballycanew. The also had a John Thomas, b. 1878 and a William James b. 1880. They were Married in the same Ballyoughter Church in 17 Feb. 1874. Perhaps there is a connection and clues in the above records to your Fitzpatricks. At least it's a place to start. I think they were from County Wexford. All the information I have now is that they immigrated to Port Hood Nova Scotia around the early 1820's. Most of the people that settled in that area of Nova Scotia were from County Wexford. My great great grand parents were Richard Harding and Bridget Murphy. They were married in Ireland. Could you steer me in the right direction as to where I may get some information? Have about 7,000 Furlongs in a database already. If you can give me a short list of names, dates, and places, I will look thru what I have. I also have about 2,000 Newfoundland Furlongs which is pretty complete. When I was in Wexford, I copied their complete file on the Furlongs which included a faint handwritten report on all the Furlongs that were born, married , and died in Co Wexford that Ian Cantwell found on the films. [This is a report Ian did for a John Furlong of Ontario, not the memorials.] And speaking of the memorials, I copied all the Furlong gravestones info Brian Cantwell found for the Furlongs. And gobs more stuff. These copies I have not computerized yet. A lot of it may already be in the database. Those not in it are arranged mostly by location - both the bmd in the church films and the memorials so I won't be able to find anyone without a location. EVERYONE: THIS IS ONLY FURLONG. Please don't ask me about anyone else. Some places have changed names - been absorbed into another town, etc. Give both. judy ----- Original Message ---- From: Michael J. About 7 years ago I was new to looking for family and I wish I had these guide lines back then. I went to Enniscorthy and Wexford town and didn't come back with anything. Since then I have been able to find my CUSHION family in Ramsgrage and New Ross (Mary Street). In addition with some obituaries I learned that my gggrandmother Mary Furlong Kehoe (later Flynn) was also from Ramsgrange. She died in Baltimore. Mary came to the US with a Thomas and Bridget Furlong. One of their children eventually resided in New Orleans. Obituaries have helped some but now I want to go back to Ireland with what I know. My uncle used to tell me my great-grandmother Margaret Stafford Kehoe was from Enniscorthy. I went to Enniscorthy and didn't find anything back then. He obituary stated that she was from Ballyvarig. Well, with some help from subscribers I learned that Ballyvarig in Wexford was more formally known as Ballyvarogue. I would like to go there since Stafford's still live there. I tried contacting them but it hasn't worked out. >From your information I think I should be able to learn possibly a great deal more. I'm interested in your Furlongs too. Thanks for sharing! WEXFORD TOWN The County library in Wexford has THE BEST in Ireland. Far better than Dublin for Wexford research. Go there for any County Research. Probably won't open until 9:30am. I had no real problem for free parking as I had handicapped thingy I brought from states. Not only do they have paper and microfilm copies of the church records, they also have indexes for some and some name files. Their collection of Wexford history books is the best. Online they have the historical/genealogical society's journals. Wexford library allows you to make paper printouts of the films and any other records. The photocopier works just fine however some of the records are faint and not too much can be done about that. The microfilm printer wasn't working well when I was there but they recommended I take pics with my cell phone of the microfilm reader's screen. Saves lots of nickels but more important, paper is heavy. Your luggage may become overweight! Or, not. Mine was because of the volumes of Furlong info they had. In Wexford, you are guaranteed a microfilm reader for two hours if you make an appt which is easy to do. I only used first appt. Cancelled the rest because of paper copy availability which was much easier and faster. When you're not on the reader, then's the time to go thru the paper printouts of the films [not all are on paper], the paper indexes of the films, make copies of the relevent Cantwell's memorials, the name files, etc. Tried but did not go to the archives. They sent me to the library for gene research. Be sure to go thru the indexes in backs of Wexford related books. Especially if you think your ancestor may have been in the 1798 rebellion. I stayed at the hostel [20+ euro] in Wexford. Very fine except you can only park across the street between 8pm and 8am. Otherwise they'll drag you out of bed to move your car. They can direct you to a parking spot a block or so away. I had very poor WIFI there [and be sure to turn the electric sockets on!]. use maps. Did not get to re-enactment village. Only used bookstore in town never has much on local history. ENNISCORTHY The records in Enniscorthy are generic. If you've read Furlong's, Whelan's, etc. books on the rebellion you already know more than there is in the 1798 center. The Enniscorthy library is minimal - they'll refer you to Wexford for research. There is no hostel in Enniscorthy. New Ross and Wexford town are 1/2 hour beautiful drive away. NEW ROSS New Ross doesn't have any films but they do have several local historical society journals on shelf as well as history books. The MacMurrough Farm Hostel just north of New Ross is superb! The rooster is not allowed in the bungalows! 20euro per nite for single. Private rooms for double.- directions are great! Walmart style superstore not far away. At the foot of the library hill is the upstairs cafe. GO THERE! Had memorable tender succulent lamb shank with 4 different types of Irish potatoes. Forgot whatever meals I had. Don't try driving thru ancient cemetery. I was so sorry I did. narrow lanes become like bicycle paths! No turnaround! Ruins galore. Ship worth the visit. FERNS Didn't get there. Most records burned. DUBLIN Main library very hospitable but you must check your gear in free lockers. May take computer and camera. Reading room on top floor, film readers on second floor. When they saw my condition after two flights [only one film at a time], they offered the readers in an adjacent room to me. Must get permission to make prints off films at 50 cents ea. Not allowed to take pics of church films. Will allow you to take photos of many stuff. Has gobs of city directories back into 1800s some incl Wexford. You will regret not doing your church film research down in Co Wexford. Get permission from librarian to take pics. Their policy is very good. Genealogy in main public library bldg. doesn't have much to offer the experienced researcher. Will send you down the block to the Archives. Archives has all kinds of goodies. If I was ever to get an ulcer, it would've developed there. The head Archivist demands you get permission before copying anything. He does not delegate to anyone! He was on 2-week holiday when I was there in beginning of July so I couldn't copy anything! Not even photos from printed books. They have originals of documents going back a millennium! You can only hand copy in pencil or transcribe into your computer. I am researching Sister Catherine Fitzpatrick of St. Charles, MO who came to Missouri about 1859 to stay with a married brother (no name). The records at the convent say that she was born in Gorey, March 25, 1839. She was one of 11 children. Six brothers and one sister emigrated before she did. She left Ireland at 18 to join a brother in St. Louis. I believe her parents sent her to the U.S. to find her brothers. Both parents were still alive at that time. She never went back. She took the habit in 1865 and spent most of her years at St. Charles, MO. Her father's name was Nicholas Fitzpatrick and her mother was Ellen Mitten. I found a Catherine Fitzpatrick in the 1880 census at the convent. Her age at that time was 41, so she was using 1839 as her birth year. She died in 1909. I also found three Fitzpatricks working at the convent in 1880, all born in Ireland. Possible relatives? I don't know if "Catherine" was her original name and she kept it or if her first name was Mary? Is anyone on the list familiar with this Fitzpatrick family? Patti Meyers
Dear Listers Is there anyone on the list who is researching either LAMBERT or SPARROW in Wexford County? Regards Sue Sharman
