    1. [WEXFORD] Re: [WEXFORD-L] Wexford
    2. Thanks so much (underlined) for all the info you sent on the Keatings, Whittys, etc. I need more post-1853 info to check the names. Wexford names are all so similar. i was glad to get more info on the Whittys especially as that is the name under siege in this family line at present. A Catherine Whitty was gggrandmother and I believe she had brother James. Thomas also appears in that family so you sent much to ponder. Again my appreciation for taking the time to look up those names.

    2. I, too, am interested in Breen/Brien, etc name. My Breens pronounced it brains in the early days, I am told and they came from Tipperary. In GGgrandfathers obit it ws given as Cashel and info given by his wife who was living. ( I did not get much help from the Brian Boru center so am still looking, guess Cashel was large district) I am on the Wexford list for other families but always glad to pick up some more info.

    2. My wife's ancestral surname in Wexford is Bryan (Hannah Bryan, b. 1827, emigrated to US in 1850's. Is this another version of O'Brien or Breen. Am I married to a Yola? Peter Myers

    3. I am also looking for anything on Breen. My GGgrandmother was Marie Helene Breen, m Jan 15, 1879. Her parents were Peter Breen b 1814 Wexford Ireland d Levis, QC. and Johanna McCarthy. Peter's parents were James Breen and Catherine Fitzsimmons. Any help will be appreciated. I am particularly interested in the families in county Wexford but a general discussion I think would also be helpful. (Also if anyone knows of a Breen web site (besides Genforum) please let me know). 1. Donough-The O'Brien History &: states that Royal lineage of French O'Briens they say the name was changed to Breen. 2. The MacBreens are said to be related to an uncle of Brian Boru (Murphy-Families in Wexford). 3. The heriage centre (Yola Park) says in the literature that the name O'Brain (later changed to Breen) comes from the Yola people (who are a mix of French, Flemis, Danish, Englis, Welsh mix who were introduced to Wexford by Longbow in 1169) Note: Brian Baru died in 1014. A lady on the web has told me that the Breen (and Bree) name is also supposed to be common in Norway. She was told by a Norwegian that the Norwegian translation is "People of the Ice". 4. Donavan the Historian says that there were O'Briens in Wexford during Strongbow's battle. (Maybe Yola park has it wrong). 5. The aggragate names are almost the same in total (181 vs. 175) and the dispersion is equally populated through each parish in County Wexford in the Householder index (1820's). This is an odd association. a) O'Brien/Brien/McBrien: O'Brien 14 Brien 167 Total= 181 b) Breen/Breene/Breeme: Breen 162 Breene 11 Breeme 2 (no O'Breene or MacBreen) Total= 175 Comments please. 2. I am researching Dorney/Durney, found so far in Piercetown, Taghmon, Tagoat and Bannon. Head of family is James Dorney, born about 1824, who married Mary Browne (probably of Piercetown). Their children are Patrick, Nicholas, James, Christopher, William (born 1862), John, and Anne (born 1866) Also looking for the James Murphy who was father to Bridget. Area of interest Ballygeary or Glynn/Barntown. Bridget married James Heffernan and after his death, William Dorney. Their son, William, was born in Ballygeary in 1887. Have information to share. 3. Hi, Susanne-- The maiden name of Catherine Parle (wife of Martin) and Elizabeth Coady of Redmoor is RECK. Their father was John RECK. Catherine and Martin married 15 Nov 1882 (source: Civil Marriage Registry). Redmoor, by the way, is in the civil parish of Killag, which is part of the R.C. Parish of Rathangan. It's pronounced Rah-tang'-an ("tang" as in anger, with the accent on "tang"). 3. The original name for Cloughbawn was Killegney. As Killegney, its records commence in March 1816, with gaps in the baptismal and marriage registers from September 1850 to January 1853, and in the death register from Sept 1853 to February 1861. To be on the safe side you should also check out the records of the neighboring parish of Rathnure which is linked historically with Killegney/Cloughbawn. Rathnure records commence 1846.

    1. [WEXFORD-L] Wexford
    2. The Parles I am finding are in the Rickardstown (Rackardstown) area of Kilmore. I don't know where the other location is. I just found a Francis who was 8 in 1834, son of Michael Parle of Clongaddy. The names were used in a lease held by Richard Jordan. Any connector? What else is near your site? This area is in the Bridgetown district and is west of TomHaggard.

    3. I have found several family marriages listed in the Wexford Civil Register Indexes for Ossary, Ferns. There is only the year, and the names of the bridge and groom. Where do I get more information/certificates? The marriages date from 1779-1827. Suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks. Marjorie, Ontario, Canada.
