    1. [WEXFORD] American cousins
    2. Joan
    3. Celestine of this list has been very helpful to me in my search for STAFFORD and CARBERY family of Owenduff/Rathumney. I realize since she is from the area the search may be easier than from the USA. I live in Baltimore Maryland home to many Irish immigrants. If any on this list from Wexford is searching for Baltimore cousins maybe I can pay back by doing look ups in our local archives. If we all work together maybe we can make the big pond smaller. 2. Bruce A. Thomas
    3. Hello Listers... is anyone here in New Ross? If so, could I prevail on your good graces and ask this: would you check the phone book for New Ross and tell me, roughly, how common the names CUSACK and ROCHE are in town? I don't need an exact number... just an idea, please. TIA Slainte! (I just learned that... am I using it properly?) Bruce.

    1. [WEXFORD] Celestine's New Ross parish registers lookup... QUINN
    2. Bill Martin
    3. Dear Celestine, Hi again. I really appreciated your kind lookup, and offer to send me a copy of the New Ross parish register entry for Bernard QUINN. Thanks again. I haven't heard from you in awhile, nor received your lookup via snailmail, as arranged. I have recently sent my snailmail address again. Please follow-up with me on that. I'm looking forward to receiving it with great anticipation. Best regards. 1. [WEXFORD] Waddicks or McFaddocks
    2. In 1656, during the Cromwellian Era, 28 men had 68,000 acres of land confiscated because they were Papists. The land formed the Barony of Gorey, in Wexford. Five of the men were named Waddick. Can anyone tell me where I might find any records for this? One of the men, Owen Waddick managed to have his land returned to him, but I am unable to find any historical documents recording the circumstances. Thanks for any suggestions. Peggy

    1. [WEXFORD] Grogans
    2. I am seeking information or possible sources on the children,or nephews, if any existed, of CORNELIUS GROGAN, owner of Johnson Castle and estate, executed by the Crown for his role in the Rebellion of 1798. New information suggests that Cornelius had a son named John and that John's son, born 1798 (?) 1806(?) and named after his grandfather had to flee Wexford around 1825. My County Armagh 'Grogans' may be descendents of this grandson. Any and all help/suggestions appreciated. Mike Woods teddymikw@aol.com

    3. Thanks for all your information. So glad you weren't giving a goodbye but just a change. I know there are others besides me who appreciate all the sources you have passed on. I particularly appreciated your message on accents and how that changed how the names were passed along. I have had an old estate sale list of leases from 1879 in Kilmore area and was trying to match names on that with baptismal, etc. records that I have--very minimal. Anyway, one of the names of a baptism sponsor was Joanna Rochford. Don't know whether this is a relative or friend and then I found a nearby land lease with Rashford. Well, i tried your trick and have figured out that has to be Rochford with a Wexford interpretation given at the time the lease was written. Most of them are from 1826 or so, although there are some later ones, so someone must have laid on the brogue. I keep going back to this estate sale piece of information that another Wexford genealogy searcher passed on to me because everytime I look at the papers, I find something new. So again, thanks Jayne. Cathy Rossing ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it. 3. In O'Hart's "Irish Pedigrees" re the O'Byrnes, John O'BYRNE of Ballycapple who settled in Dunganstown is listed on Page 621. He married a Miss Byrne and had two sons, the elder being William who married a Miss Bury and in turn had two sons, WILLIAM and JAMES.   The latter married a Miss Newsome and had one daughter while nothing is recorded regarding WILLIAM. If anyone can throw any light on WILLIAM, as to whether he married and, if so, had any issue, or anything as to the name of JAMES's daughter, I will be most grateful. Shaun Bryan sc906b@webtv.net

    1. [WEXFORD] Nicholas or Patrick Fortune
    2. Festa, Maureen E
    3. I am looking for information on my great grandfather, who, because of disagreement within my family, was named either Nicholas or Patrick Fortune. He was born in Ballyculla(sp?), Curracloe, probably 1875-1880, and had at least two brothers, John and James. He married Mary Collithan, later spelled Cullington, near the turn of the century. They emigrated to Lawrence, Mass., USA, where my grandmother, Margaret was born in 1910. He died before 1940, although I am unsure of the date. Any information anyone has would be most appreciated. 3. I was very interested in your posting - as in all your postings - particularly the source "1861 Catholics Enniscorthy Parish". Can you tell me how I might access this list, or contact someone to look up a name for me? I am researching Thomas McGrath and his four sons, Michael, Charles, John and Thomas. The boys were born in Wexford Town but they were said to have emigrated from Enniscorthy to Birkenhead in the early 1860s. Thanks Chris McGrath, London

    1. Census Substitutes Re: [WEXFORD] Lookup please
    2. Jane O'Brien
    3. While it is true that original census returns were destroyed in Dublin in 1922, some had been destroyed before that time. However, the following 'substitutes' can be used for Wexford, while they do not necessarily name any more than the main householder or important landowners they can be useful - 1618 heralds Visatation of Co. Wexford 1641 book of Survey and Distribution 1654-56 Civil Survey 1659 pender's census 1665-1839 Free burgess of New Ross 1766 Edermine - protestants only 1776 Freemen f Wexford 1789 Protestant householders ferns parish 1792 Some protestant householders Ballycanew & Killisk 1798 Protestants Murdered 1798 Rebellion 1798 persons who suffered losses 1798 1817 Emigrants from Co's Carlow & Wexford to Canada 1823-38 Tithe Books 1842 Voters 1853 griffiths 1861 Catholics Enniscorthy Parish 1867 Marshallstown 1901 Census 1911 Census There is also the graveyard Memorials of Co. Wexford which can give family details going back to the 1700's. Not that many stones of that period and usually they would have been erected only by the more well to do families, but not to be ignored as a source of family information. jane ----- Original Message ----- From: celestine rafferty <raffs@iol.ie> To: <WEXFORD-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, September 05, 1999 8:40 PM Subject: Re: [WEXFORD] Lookup please > The earliest available census household returns for County Wexford are > from the 1901 census - all previous ones were destroyed either by order of > government or in the Public Record Office fire in 1922. > CMR > > > ==== WEXFORD Mailing List ==== > To Contact the listowner: > email hugh@xtra.co.nz > >

    1. [WEXFORD] Edward Bolger, Mary (Doyle) Bolger
    2. Ann E. Ignacio
    3. Dear Wexford-L This is my first submission and these are my ancestors: The family of EDWARD BOLGER and wife MARY DOYLE, possibly from Old Ross area, emigrated, in several waves of family members. Mary and younger children sailed on the ship "Margaret" May, 1848, from Waterford Harbor. Their daughter ANASTASIA BOLGER, her husband JAMES CARTY (from Begerin,Lloyd) and their children, emigrated in 1853, also to Portland, Dodge County, Wisconsin. Edward had probably gone earlier with daughter Ellen and an older son. Can you help me locate their residence in Ireland, and provide any leads to help me and other Bolgers here in U.S.A., in our quest? Your help is appreciated! Thanks, Ann I.

    3. Hello, I am new to this list. I am looking for any information, address or phone numbers, on any children of Vincent CANNING of Wexford, Ireland. Vincent is my late my uncle and died in the early 1990's. He had several children who lived in the Wexford area. I am planning a trip to Ireland in March 2000 and plan on meeting my cousins. Checking with local newspapers and the police have not produced any results. Some of Vincent CANNING's children's names are Pascal, Janice, Anna (McFadden), Mary, and Frances. His wife's name is Margaret or Madge CANNING. Any information will be appreciated. Thanx Frank Canning eagle@voyager.net

    3. Marjorie Thank you. Yes indeed my Tetlocks settled in Lanark Co Ontario. I do know that the spelling of TETLOCK changes occasionally to TATLOCK on various censuses and such. Samuel, William and Henry seem to be prominent names in the family so this looks like an excellent lead. Thanks so much. 2. Jacky
    3. Dear Wexford Listers, I'm new to this list, but have used several in the UK for some time. However I am absolutely ignorant of Irish genealogy, so please be patient with me! I have a Thomas FERRERS, born about 1750-1770--somewhere! He was related to Reverend Edmund FERRERS, rector of Cheriton, Hampshire who married Caroline Mary YOUNGE on 24/4/1787 at St Ann, Soho, London. Caroline's father was Reverend Edward YOUNGE DD, Bishop of Leighlin and Ferns. Has anyone on this list any knowledge of Thomas FERRERS or his connection to the YOUNGEs? Very hopefully.
