Edel again. I might mention that I'm sort of first generation American, so most of the families I'm researching would still be in Ireland. However, since my paternal grandmother (nee Fardy) was born in Albany and her father disappeared from there (he may have deserted them), I am interested in information on that line in the States. I would also like to say that since most of my family names are rather unusual, I am interested in anything on these names that's available, whether in Ireland or elsewhere. I just might not be able to give you a positive answer on whether or not there's a connection just yet. > -----Original Message----- > From: Codd, Edel @ Newport > Sent: Monday, November 01, 1999 2:15 PM > To: 'Wexford-L@rootsweb.com'; 'Beara-L@rootsweb.com'; > 'BIFHS-USA-NEWS-L@rootsweb.com'; 'IRELAND-D@rootsweb.com'; > 'IrelandGenWeb-D@rootsweb.com'; 'IRL-KERRY-D@rootsweb.com'; > 'SHAMROCK-D@rootsweb.com'; 'SURNAMES-IRELAND-L@rootsweb.com' > Subject: Researching these names > > Hi, my name is Edel, and I am interested in the following families: > > Codd - Co. I am a new member of this list. My Wexford interest is limited to family WATERS. William WATERS gave his origin as Drinagh 1811. William WATERS enlisted in the "Honourable East India Company" army in 1831- and attested at Liverpool; embarked 3 Jun; arrived Calcutta 16 Oct in the Thomas Grenville. The Thomas Grenville made 13 voyages 1809-32. William has many descendents in New Zealand. Any suggestions about finding Irish records for this family, would be most welcome. _____________________________________ Neville Thomas, Auckland, New Zealand. Good day Wexford listers. I am Sharon Hiner from Big Sky Montana USA. I have recently spent aprox 8 months on Co Cork Mailing List accumulating information on my family AHERN, of which there is a "Gazillion" AHERNS, almost felt like I was drowning in AHERNS at times. That was my Great Grandmother's family, I am now looking for my Great Grandfather's family in Wexford. FLAHERTY, Edward (Ned)Patrick , b. 16, May, 1844 Wexford (don't know where in Wexford) Father: Morgan FLAHERTY, Mother: Mary ? FLAHERTY. 2 sisters: Frances and Nora, plus brothers ??? The family were traditionally Seaman. My Great Grandfather Ned Flaherty went to sea as a young man age ?, settled in San Francisco, CA, in 1860's 1870's, married my Gt Grandmother Mary Elizabeth AHERN in San Francisco in 1880. He sailed out of San Francisco, and Portland Oregon for awhile, settled North of San Francisco in Eureka, CA area manned a Life Saving Station for many years before going back to sea. A census lists him as CAPTAIN Flaherty. I have a family story that tells of a place in Wexford named FLAHERTY'S HILL. Has anyone heard of it, could it be on any of the ordinance survey maps of 1800's? Thinking that my FLAHERTY's were seaman traditionally, I would think they resided on or near the coast in Co Wexford? Don't know that though. I have a neat family story that might help in identifying area. Ned's mother, Mary FLAHERTY nursed the English Landowner's child along with one of her children when the Landowner's wife died in childbirth. Later the Englishman took his child and returned to England, upon his death the Manor house and Estate was left to the FLAHERTYS, Morgan and Mary, they lived there until their death, when it was traditionally willed to the eldest son, my Great Grandfather. When he was notified, he declined to return to Ireland to claim the estate so I imagine it went to the next youngest son as was traditional. That is all the information I have as to possible location. I sure hope someone out there might have a clue for me. If someone could point me in the direction of where I might obtain records, wills, births, marriage, of course I would first need to know the location in Co Wexford, I'm sure. Thanks for any and all help. Cheers from Sharon in Montana ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
these are from a place called Templeshanbo in north co. Wexford...also called Templeshambo - St. Colman's Church (COI).....and they are the same family, but they show the difficulties with names and spellings and pronounciations. There is the name Kearns which is how the name would be spelled - and then there is Kerens - how it can be pronounced. and the Kearns stone is older than the Kerens. There is a placename - Kiltely but it really is Kiltealey. same thing, same pronounciation for me but a different spelling and then we have Moses and Mogue - one on each stone....and looking at the dates and ages here - Moses wife Mary died in 1831 aged 47. Now, if she had lived to 1859 when Mogue died - she would have been 75 - just the right age to be the wife of Mogue - if he was Moses and not Mogue..... *But* he probably was - no one will ever know for absolutely positively and definitely that these were the same man - unless he left a will somewhere and both names are mentioned in it....unlikely - or unless this is another well documented family and their descendants come and tell me I'm right :-) The main thing though and the importance of stones is that they bring us back past the time of civil records -they tell us who was who in the family, their ages.....the older ones tell us the wifes maiden name (usually). The graveyard is Church of Ireland - Brian cantwell has not noted any RC stones there - but I don't think he does note any I.H.S. stones in any of the graveyards he's surveyed. That's a pity. many Protestant churches were built on the sites of old chuches - medieval buildings - most of them were at some stage RC...never, ever turn down info from any graveyard which you are told is Protestant.......because when you head into it yourself - you'll find loads and loads of Catholic stones. Jane KEARNS: Two headstones side by side, a) left and b) right a) Erected by Moses Kearns of Kilte-/Ly in memory of his father Robe/Rt Kearns depd this life /April the 23rd 1793 aged 72 years/also his mother/Margaret Kearns alias Murphy who/depd this life May the 11th 1810 age 66/also his wife Mary Kearns/alias Leary who depd this life/Oct the 10th 1831 age 47. b) Erected by James Kerens/Kiltealy in memory of his father /Mogue Kerens who died December 22/1859 aged 77 years also his/sister Mary Kerens who died July 26th/1844 aged 32 years also his brother Robert Kerens who died August 29/1847 aged 29 yrs/also pray for the soul of/Margaret Corcoran who died June /the 24th 1881 aged 74 years.

Re your letter to Jim: Did you, by any chance, look at Volume VI? I checked out your wonderful web site on this and surmised that I needed, for Castlebridge and Ballyboggan, just north of the map you have. The note beside it says "see Vol. VI". I am looking for a Kehoe (Kehough, etc.) as well, but have nothing more to go on than that my ggrandmother's mother was a Kehoe, in that area. My ggrandmother's name was Anna (ie) Leary. Milli
As far as I am know, the Fern Marriage Licenses' volumes were destroyed in the Public Record Office fire in 1922, so only the indexes remain.
The following information was sent to me several years ago and I just came across it again and am hoping someone has the ability to search for this information for me. This could possibly be my gr-grandfather for whom I have no information: John REDMOND, a lawyer, died in 1872 at age of 50. His death was reported by Catherine REDMOND. No place name was given so have no idea where to look. Any thoughts or ideas? Looking forward to hearing from you. Jo Redmond Kester kester@saber.udayton.edu
CULLEN ( CULLIN) and SINNOTT. Thomas Sinnott Cullen came to the US in 1850 at age of 12 with his parents Edward Cullin and Catherine Sinott Cullin . Arrived in Pennsylvania . Thomas settled in Missouri where he farmed and was a political force until his death in 1913. I am his great grandson looking for information from the Wexford area. Bruce Miles
In 1991 I received a photocopied page of an alphabetical index of Ferns Marriage Licenses from the Co. Wexford Librarian. It lists the volume and page numbers of the marriage records, but the librarian penciled "volumes not available" next to the entries. I would like to know if these volumes are available somewhere and if so what information is found in them. The volumes I am interested in are vol. 5 and 7A. Sherrye
I have a number of Keatings in one of my family tree files, but no Nicholas or Richard. I also have a few Kehoe, Keogh entries in another file, but I don't have dates on these folks. I have a Martin Kehoe married with children and another Martin married to Ellen Doyle, with children. If either of these look like the people that you're researching, I'll be pleased to share what I have with you. Researching the Hartrick Clan and enjoying life in the past lane, Lester J. Hartrick

I would highly recommend at stop at the WExford County LIbrary in their new downtown location. You will find copies of Brian Cantwell's Memorial books complete with maps and indexes. The staff there are wonderful and if Celestine is there you will surely have a "lucky" day. She is terrific!!! Wexford is lovely and don't forget to drive to Kilmore Quey to have the most wonderful seafood at Kehoe's Pub. The nice part of his books are that he indexed the cemeteries and numbered all of his work very nicely. http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/8798/wexford7southeast.html Please take a look at my website to see copies of the maps. Although it will only be the Kehoe information I included maps of the cemetaries when possible. If you are unable to blow them up suffieciently, please let me know. Hello All, My name is Stephen J. Scully. My great-grandfather was Michael J. Scully. He was the son of David Scully and Annie Donovan. He was from Wexford County and born on Christmas day in 1854. He came to the states in 1867 and settled in Boston, Massachusetts. He married Hannah Quilty in 1875. He later married Elizabeth Travers in 1889. He finally married my biological great-grandmother Elizabeth Carty in 1899. I am trying to find out if Michael fathered any children by the first two wives and what happened to the wives themselves. Please help! Thanks
