Dear Celestine, Apologies if you already got my request. Can you tell me how to get a photocopy of Walkers Hibernian Magazine, July 1786? I understand the Wexford Lib. has the set. I am interested in the info. listed in that issue about the wedding of Cornelius Grogan and Rebecca Frost. Many thanks Mike
News of Celestine Rafferty's pending departure from Wexford is saddening, but she will surely settle in well in her new surroundings. I hesitate to address this request to her specifically as she is clearly generating a lot of traffic before she signs off. If se has tme, comment would be appreciated, but I address this to any or all listers who may have knowledge of this area of Wexford. My GF, one Nicholas (O')BYRNE moved into Ballymacar in 1896 when he married a Margaret WALSH. He originated a little to the East, at Grasscur where the family had been located for some time. I'm seeking confirmation of his background and would appreciate hearing from anyone who may have knowledge of BYRNES in any of the following places (all fairly close together): Taghmon, Rochestown,Rathangan, Newtown, Grasscur, Cleariestown, Cooleycall, Ballylibernagh (Bridgetown), Doonooney (Adamstown),and Kilcowan. Thank-you for your attention. Shaun Bryan <html><BODYbgcolor="white"text="black"></html>
Oops! Sorry, the name of the woman living in Wexford is Peg, not Pat SIMMONS! Kathy (Simmons) Andrejko BluesFolly@aol.com
Hi everyone, I was going through my genealogy papers and came across some notes that referred to the two SIMMONS men in Wexford that I was inquiring about. Their names were Willam and Samuel SIMMONS, and they died during the ruckus that occurred when their church (Church of Ireland, aka Church of England) was burned down. Both are buried in Tagmon(?) Cemetary in Wexford County--15 mins. from the town of Wexford. Does any of this sound familiar or is there anyone on the mailing list from Wexford who might be able to check this out? I would be so appreciative! Also, from what I have been told, there is one last remaining SIMMONS living in Wexford -- her name is Pat SIMMONS. It may be a shot in the dark, but I would love to hear from anyone who might know how to connect with her! Best regards, Kathy (Simmons) Andrejko BluesFolly@aol.com
Joe, On the Townland Data Base -http://www.seanruad.com/cgi-bin/iresrch, there does not seem to be a Ballybeg townland in Gorey, but there is a Ballinglinbeg in Kilcavan Parish, Gorey. Does someone else on the list know whether Ballybeg is an "old" name no longer used? Welcome to the US and I can only lament that I did not know of the help you had to offer til now. I'll bother you with how best to go about looking for my Kinsellas after you're over here. Welcome and I can only imagine you're probably moving to either Boston, New York or Chicago. Chris Doehring St. Louis MO
I have on loan at the LDS the 1901 census for Owenduff parish. It also contains part of New Ross and St. James & Dunbrody. I may make this permanent in my LDS. If you have interest there let me know and I will look for you. Remember it is not indexed or soundex. You have to read each townland. It gives persons in the house, Can read or write or not, Marital status, age, birthplace. I started to copy all the heads of house and age, but ran out of time and felt the rest of the list not interested in this small part of Wexford would be bored if I sent it. Time is always a problem for me I need a 36 hour day. Several people including one at my LDS are putting the 1901 census for Roscommon on line. Please give me as much info as you can. Not... are there any Murphy's, Yes is the answer. I am guessing everyone on this list has a map of the Parishes of Wexford and if you do not get one. Owenduff is number 100 as a reference point. I know from many of the dates on this list your family immigrated earlier than mine in 1903. I know the ones in America. My interest lies in those that stayed in Ireland. I have met cousins there but they are not interested in genealogy and said I am "daft" to pursue it. I already knew I was daft, so I am still searching. I emailed Celestine personally but would like to make it public. We in the USA welcome you. You have been wonderful with this list in your help and history lessons. I hope once you settle we will see your return to the list. Now you will get to see how we celebrate St. Patrick's day in America. It is a Grand day. I have a copy of a letter from James WHELAN in Boley to his "nephews and nieces beyond the seas" (which included my grandfather-in-law Laurence CUMMINS) telling of the death of their mother. Details as follows: Name: Mary CUMMINS (nee Whelan) Died: 30 November 1902 Place: Boley, Ballycullane (I think) Can some kind soul tell me how to find a death certificate or any other information on Mary or even her brother James. The only other information I have is that Mary was married to James CUMMINS but I do not have birth records or a marriage record for them and do not know the names of their parents. Their children were Ellen, Bridget, Catherine, Peter, James, Laurence, and John (but not in that order). James, Laurence, John, Bridget and Catherine came to Australia but I believe Ellen and Peter died in Ireland. Any help I can get would be appreciated. I am willing to share information I have on the Australian end. Thanks, Sherill Mills email: sherillm@mpx.com.au or sherill.mills@dpc.vic.gov.au

This is a quick note of "welcome to the USA" for Celestine Rafferty, who has probably helped more Americans find their Irish ancestors in County Wexford and throughout Ireland than almost anyone. Her "caring and sharing" with so many of us is legend on this list and others. Wexford's loss is the USA's gain. Welcome to America, Celestine. /S/ Jim Carey Washington, DC
Dear Listers, Apologies in advance for this off-topic posting. I am leaving my beloved Wexford on March 2 to settle in the US and wanted to take this opportunity to say goodbye (for now) to the many friends I have made through the Wexford list. I am contactable at this email address until February 27 if anyone wants me to do some urgent last minute research here. But, please, don't swamp me;-) Beir bua, Celestine Rafferty
