Hi All, Earlier I posted a message about passenger lists at: http://istg.rootsweb.com/index2.html Further to this I should point out that there are three volumes to search. See the very bottom of the page. I missed it the first time, maybe others will too. Patti

Ed you mentioned the article appeared in the Globe recently. A similar article appeared in the monthly magazine called "Canadian Geographic" last year. Unfortunatly I do not have the month- I read it in a doctors office. Article says the father of our former Prime Minister (Brian Mulrooney) was from Wexford. (My relatives would get a laugh at that-This Brian was not very popular in his last term). I will post on a Canadian list to see if anyone knows where he was from. Larry O'Brien

I'm resending this email as I made a typo in my email address. Sorry to all. Hi all Although I'm new to this list I have been researching my family now for six years. I have now reached a major brick wall and hope that someone out there has come across these people in their own research. EVOY Garret EVOY, born c 1804, Ireland; died 1876 Ste-Marguerite, Quebec, Canada; married Catherine STAFFORD born c 1811 Ireland died 1857 Ste-Marguerite, Quebec, Canada. I'm not sure if they married in Ireland or Canada. I have not been able to find a marriage record for them. They raised eight children, born between 1833 and 1850. Moses, Mary Elizabeth, Margaret, Catherine, Johanna, Bridget, Patrick, and Philip. I have also researched this family group as the similarlity in names makes me believe there might be a link between them. Philip EVOY born c 1798 Co. Wexford, Ireland, died 1861 Sillery, Quebec, Canada, married Ireland to Honora MEYERS/MYERS born c 1800 Co. Wexford, Ireland, died 1886 Quebec, Canada. They had six children. (1) Moses, Garret, John, (2) Philip, Margaret, and Mary. (1) Moses EVOY born c 1827 Ireland, died 1902 Québec, Canada, married 1860 Quebec Canada, Catherine HOGAN born ?, died 1918 Québec, Canada. Their children were Catherine, Margaret Ann, Mary, Philip John, Edward, William Garret born between 1860-1874. (2) Philip EVOY born 1840 Tintern Co., Wexford, Ireland, died 1917 Quebec, Canada, married Bridgit ROSS 1880 Quebec, Canada, born 1854 Quebec, Canada, died 1898 Darian, Geo., USA. STAFFORD Philip STAFFORD born Wexford, Ireland; died Bet. 1843 - 1850 ; married Catherine POWER died Bet. 1850 - 1867. I cannot find any record of Philip and Catherine in Quebec, Canada. I'm not convinced they actually made it to Canada. The range of death deaths is taken from marriage records. They had five children all born in Ireland. Lawrence's burial monument states that he was born in New Ross, Wexford. Therefore I'm assuming that Philip and Catherine were married and that all children were born in New Ross, Wexford. Children: Bridget, Catherine, Lawrence , Peter and Patrick. Grateful for any help you can send my way Barbara-Ann Egan ba.aye@sympatico.ca
I am hoping that someone on this list will be able to help me to find any clues to the life of my ggg grandfather Patrick Troy, who was the first member of my Troy family to arrive in Australia. I know plenty about his life in Australia but his days in Ireland are shrouded with mystery and sprinkled with myths. Working backwards, Patrick arrived in Sydney in 1811, on board the Providence, having gone on trial in "one county court" in Waterford on Monday 13 August 1810 and being found guilty of attempting to steal arms. A report of his trial appeared in the Waterford Mirror on 20 August 1810. Patrick was sentenced to 7 years' transportation for attempting to steal arms from a Mr. Wilson of Whitestown but claimed to have been with a friend in Carrick on the day in question. As far as I can determine, the county of Wexford is the only one with towns of these names in close proximity. In all records Patrick's place of origin is given as Waterford but this was where he was tried. His age on arrival in Australia indicates, if it is correct, that he was born c1786 but nowhere have I found any reference to his Irish family or to his place or date of birth. Some of the myths about about him include that he was a member of the Flying Column in Wexford. I am hoping that by some miracle all this makes sense to someone and to all the others, I apologise for sending such a long introduction to myself. My fingers are crossed. Carolyn Troy Melbourne. Guten Abend Ire! From Deutscheland! Hello Wexford, I am VERY new to Irish research, but just got in the mail the Declaration of Intent on Sanders Alexander FRAIN b. abt. 1835 in Wexford Ire Imm:(Arrival) Oct 1853 Charleston South Carolina (USA), Intended place of Residence Augusta, Richmond Co. GA. Port of Deptr. New Ross! There was no obituary in the Augusta Cronicle, (Augusta Georgia Newspaper) However, we did find a Funeral Notice in the Paper stating: Funeral Notice Apr 17, 1870 The friends and acquaintances of S.A. FRAIN and RICHARD FRAIN and families are respectfully invited to attend the funeral of the former from the Church of the Atonement this (Sunday) afternoon at 3 and 1/2 o'clock. According to the Family Tree passed down from 2 Generations, Sanders Alexander FRAIN was the son of Richard Alexander FRAIN. That they were from Wexford Ire. (It's still unclear if it is Wexford City or County Wexford.) I have ordered the Church of Atonement records, but they still haven't arrived... and may still yet take a while due to the distance from the US to Germany. Until then is there anyone out here that can point me in the right direction, or make a connection to this family as listed below?? Richard Alexander FRAIN (and variants) b. Ire m. Mary BOARDMAN Children: Richard FRAIN (No other information) Walter S. (Sanders?) FRAIN Jacob S. FRAIN Sanders Alexander FRAIN John FRAIN Mary A. FRAIN Walter S. FRAIN m. Mary V. MAYFIELD in Newton County Georgia, died in the 1st Ward Augusta City Jail they had Sanders J. FRAIN and Martha FRAIN (Mary V. Mayfield later married a William PLUNKETT and I haven't yet found where they went from there.) Jacob S. FRAIN is found in the Georgia Disgusting Records of Genealogical Value (I can't remember off the top of my head whom wrote the book.) His Funeral notice lists a Mrs. E. S. LOMAX and Richard A. FRAIN (Sanders and Jacob both made their declarations of intent at the same time in the same court.) Sanders Alexander FRAIN m. Mary Ann Boardman STEPHENS (a descendant of Mary BOARDMAN's sister Elizabeth Boardman STEPHENS.) they had 3 children. Mammie (died as an infant.) Ann who died in 1865 (this could be Mammie) and Richard Alexander FRAIN. Sanders d. at the young age of 35 whereby Richard lived with his uncle Thomas George STEPHENS. (son of Elizabeth Boardman STEPHENS) John FRAIN who married an Ann lived in Newton County GA where I found Walter... I can't yet make a proof positive connection to him. Willing to share what copies I have and any information on Descent! Hugs Wendy Mayfield
