    1. [WEX] Issac Neill & Web Site info.
    2. Patrick Neill
    3. Hi to everyone on the list, I have family history interests in Wexford, Ireland and Liverpool, England. I am trying to find the birth place of ISAAC NEILL born in Wexford around about 1820. His parents were James & Sarah. I have found the name JAMES NEILL on the Griffith Valuation (27 times), hopefully one them is ISAAC's father but which one? I am setting up a Web site with information and indexes that might be of interest to people researching ancestors in Wexford, Ireland and Irish Roman Catholics in Liverpool, England. There is also an index of Waterford Freeman who where based in Liverpool. The URL is: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hibernia/ If anyone has indexes or information that they would like adding to this site, please contact me. 1. [WEX] James and Margaret (Clarke) Kehoe
    2. Hi, I am a new subscriber to this list. For several years, I have been researching the KEHOE family in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. I knew that they had come from Ireland, but I did not know where. Well, this week I have finally found out. They are from County Wexford. I am looking for James KEHOE born abt. 1823-1826 and his wife Margaret CLARKE (CLARK) born abt. 1824. They emigrated as a married couple to Baltimore in 1849. Does anyone know of KEHOE or CLARKE families in County Wexford? I hope this looks familiar to someone. Thanks! Teri in Maryland GenFindem@aol.com ************** B. NEW SUBSCRIBERS: When you subscribe to the list it would be very much appreciated if you would post a message introducing yourself and letting the rest of us know where your interests lie and which families you are researching.

    2. SHIRLEY NEWBOLD
    3. Are there any Irish speakers on the list? I have a puzzle. The place name is Ballyskeagh. How would it be pronounced, phonetically, today and how would it have been pronounced in Irish 200 years ago. I'm trying to figure out where in Ireland an ancestor came from if they verbslly said is was "Billings Cake." There is no such spelling, or anything close, listed in the Index of Townlands. The location is Co. Down, where I understand little or no Irish is/was spoken but I could be wrong on that. My wild guess is that Ballyskeagh may have sounded like Billings Cake to the person who was writing down what the emigrant said. Anyway, I would be most grateful for any help given. This is becoming an obsession with me <GRIN> Shirley N.

    1. [WEX] Cullens of Wexford
    2. I often wonder, are there any researchers in County Wexford? I've looked at the telephone directory for the county and would guess there are more than 300 CULLEN families listed (my particular interest). It seems to me that some, or perhaps many, could be in possession of at least some of the answers to questions so many of us have about our ancestry, i.e., oral history, family trees, family Bibles, old letters or other family records. The question is, how does one tap into this potentially valuable source of information??

    3. The Tithe Applotement Books for Parishes in Wexford are dated 1823. The tithes (£253.13.3) were payable to the Very Rev'd Peter Brown, Dean of Fern. Unfortunately there are not the usual names with this list which is a tragedy for us. However the Index of Surname Householder Index is helpful as it shows the townlands where the family lived in 1823. G are names in the index in 1853, and "T" are names where they lived in 1823. 2. To whoever is familiar with the Valuation books based on Ordinance Survey maps in the Valuation Office: My ggrandfathers' (both) lots in Ballyboggan in the Tikillen Parish has dates of changes in the occupier or lessor entries, with dates penciled in the margin. I understand that these could, and probably are dates of changes in occupation due to death. My question -- are these dates pretty much the same as the deaths, or were they recorded late enough to be different? The validity of a death certificate or two hinges on that. Milli

    2. African Queen
    3. Hello Everyone I hope some kind person can help me solve a mystery ? My great great grandmother was a Mary Jane Carleton (born circa 1830). She was orphaned in the potato famine and raised by a wicked Aunt. She ran away to sea and got married to my gg grandfather Richard Woodland in 1855 in Cape Town. Do any of the church records exists and where ? I do believe she was a catholic as her granddaughter became a Dominican nun in Cape Town and a grandson became a catholic priest. Where on earth do I start looking for clues ?? Kind regards Heather - Cape Town SOUTH AFRICA Live for Today Remember Yesterday And Think of Tomorrow

    1. [WEX] - Stokes of Drumderry, Co. Wexford
    2. phil stokes
    3. I have recently been fortunate to find a branch of Stokes family via the internet on a Stokes list. I am now trying to locate other branches or gather information about the family Stokes of Drumderry (near Clonegal and in the half-parish of Kildavin) John Stokes of Drumderry m Margaret Byrne The following are the baptismal records for the family taking note of the fact that the records only start a few years before the first child named in the record. Name : Betty. Bap : 28/Feb/1834 (later Eliza when married to Francis Nolan in 13 Oct 1863) Sponsors : Larry Nowlan & Ann Nowlan. Name : ____ possibly James Born 5/Sep/1839 Sponsors : John Dolan & Margaret Dolan Name : _______ Possibly Margaret Born 6/Oct/1842 Sponsors : Andrew Byrne & Molly Nolan Name : Patrick Bap : 6/Mar/1846 Sponsors : Tom Byrne and Mary Connor Name : Anna Bap 28/Aug/1848 Sponsors : James keogh & Mag Roche Died : 17/Apr/1926 in Drumderry Name : Michael Bap 16/May/1852 Sponsors : James Byrne & Alicia Byrne One of the indecipherable entries could be for John (my g-grandfather) but he was said to be 50 years upon death in 1894. I know what happened to Anna and Patrick left Ireland to go to London in 1875 to join the London Police! John is my g-grandfather It was said that some of the other members of the family emigrated to America or to Australia so I'm hoping that there may be some Listers who will recognise details As there are no death records available I don't know how many survived into adulthood. There was also an entry in the marraige register for a Mary Stokes of Drumderry who married Peter Byrne on 28/Nov/1867 (Witnesses Andy Kavanagh and Bidy Ronan). Thank You Phil Stokes ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
