Apparently, the corrected addresses are not available at this time. Since is is after 10ish there, they probably have closed shop and gone home. Please try this route: Go to Cyndi's List at http://www.cyndislist.com/ Scroll to Military Resources Worldwide Scroll to U-K Military and click on it Scroll to (past all the wars) and click on Public Records Office [Finding Aids] [A-Z Index of Leaflets] Scroll to (whatever) Merchant Seamen Records. Also while you're there find the bookstore icon and wander around in it.It's worth the trip but remember the wxchange rate is acute
Hello Dee, The address I posted [and found by accident while surfing the net] did not have a post code. The only infomation with it said they held birth records for Wexford town, from 1864 to date. I think your research is just a little too early for this addess to be much help. Maybe someone on the list can point you to church records for New Ross Parish. Earlier info re the captioned did not contain reachable addresses.Better (I tested this time) for the PRO :http://www.pro.gov.uk/leaflets/ri2034htm or 2031 etc and for Newfoundland info (GREAT SITE) use http://www.mun.ca/mh Regret the inconvenience. Also remember this is all pre-1922.
The Public Office at Kew holds most of the records relating tothe British Merchant Marine,it's ships and seamen,in the United Kingdom (plus the records pf the Royal Navy).Information can be accessed through http://www.pro.uk/leaflets/ri005.htm. Unfortuneatly, searching by any other means than on a personal basis is not available. They will recommend a genealogist. You can also reach them through Cyndi's List via England(military,Public Record Office,Finding Aids A-Z leaflets) The Maritime History Archives at Newfoundland, accessed through http://www.mun.ca/mha/publicat.htm has great information about the merchant marine:CD's.,On-Line Catalogue,Research Services,Genealogy Research, etc The LDS also has microfilms regarding merchant marine activities such as Agreements(sailing matters),crew lists, ship registerations, starting at 1863 and onward (FHL 184696 etc). If you have specifics the route looks good. The 'Pro" is described as a maze. There are some books available as guides. I have PRO #22 Records od Merchant Shipping and Seamen. I can advise.

Hi Milli, I 'm sorry for the confusion. The address I used for my initial enquiry was Registrar of Births, County Clinic, Grogans Rd, Wexford. I had a very helpful reply from A Nolan, with an application form enclosed. The form's heading reads SOUTH EASTERN HEALTH BOARD APPLICATION FOR BIRTH CERT.> SEND TO: The Registrar, Community Care Centre, Grogans Rd, Wexford. I hope this helps, I have scanned the form and would be willing send as an attachment if you would like a copy. The only other address I have is Central Statistics Office, Ardee Rd, Rathmines, Dublin 6. Please, what is the Registry at Grogan's Rd. and the County Registry? Hello, Apologize for this being somewhat off topic: I believe someone on the list uses a Kierkegaard quote at the end of their posts regarding the knowledge of history being necessary to forge the future -- or something to that effect. I'm writing a paper and would like to know the exact quote. Have searched and searched the net but cannot locate it. Thanks kindly, Lisa
Thank you Edel, You have been very helpful. the County Clinic I refered to is the Address I was given for the Registrar of Births Grogans Rd, Wexford. I believe I misworded a question the other day when I asked if there might be any "researchers" in Co. Wexford. What I really meant is, are there any fellow genealogists that may be trying to bridge the same gap many of us are trying to bridge, just from the other side?? I learned from a fellow CULLEN in Co. Wexford several years ago that some families are in possession of family bibles, letters, records that in the case of a bible entry, for example, might say something as curious as "...Uncle John and Aunt Jane and children emigrated to Ontario, Canada last month, May 5, 18--..." So, again, I ask how do we tap into this potential source of information??
Thank you so much for this website. I may have found a relative... Sparrow. Carol Magee << http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hibernia/ >>
Hi John! As far as I know, Distillery Road is still there. The other place is The Folly, which is on the outskirts of town. Also, the reference to Margaret is "Margaret, nee Dreelin" or Margaret, born Dreelin (excuse me if you knew that, but it reads like you think Nee was part of her name). You might try the baptismal registers for the parish in Wexford. (Check www.ferns.ie, the diocesan website. I'm not sure of the name of the church.) Many children had their baptisms registered, but not their births. Most of my documentation has come that way. Unfortunately, it doesn't prove when a child was born. Also, by county Clinic, do you mean the hospital? If so, I'd suggest checking with the County Registrar instead. Hardly anyone was ever born in hospitals, even into this century. Some of my own first cousins were born at home, and the oldest of my cousins is only about 52! Unfortunately, I don't have access to the census, but I'm sure someone else does. Still looking here! I have discovered that my Patrick Kehoe b 26 March, 1797 married Bridget Bryne b June 21, 1798 in Co. Carlow on 22 November 1822 at St. Lazerian's Church, Leighlinbridge, Co Carlow, Ireland. His parents were William Andrew Kehoe abt 1775 and Ann Ryan abt 1775. I think that Patrick was from Co. Wexford but cannot prove that. I cannnot find his birth in Co. Carlow, nor anything on his parents. Does anyone have suggestions? If you are researching Kehoe's, please check out my home page for a wealth of shared information from many sources. Good luck hunting. Hello Ross: I am very interested in the Tithe Applotement Books for Parishes in Wexford as I have Webster ancestors that came to Canada from Wexford some time between 1827 and 1850. Margaret wrote on March 26: << can any one tell me how to find the certificate for a master mariner, and how much is it likely to be... >> Margaret - For information on mariners, seamen, their certificates, and their vessels, I can recommend the excellent MARINERS newsgroup. To subscribe: mariners-D-request@rootsweb.com Put nothing in the subject box. In the body, only put the word: subscribe [For others reading this message, one area that the Mariners list intentionally does *not* cover is ship passenger lists.] Margaret, I'll send you some separate information on obtaining Master Mariner certificates, rather than posting it to the Wexford list. As anyone heard from Jane Lyons who used to be active on this list. Last contact I had with her was maybe 6 weeks ago and she said she was sick. Now I'm worried. Slainte, Tim
Hello Listers, I have just received the information that my gggrandfather (John Joseph NOONAN) was born in New Roos, Wexford in 1820. I am wondering if there is someone of the list who has access to (and could check) Griffith's Valuation for the surname of NOONAN for me? I would like to be able to see if this surname appears in Wexford in those years. Also, are there any members of the list who have ancestors from this area of Wexford? Thanking in advance for any assistance that I receive. Best regards, Dee dwagar3954@aol.com
