Hi Just wanting to repost my Wexford Co., Ireland line. My great grandfather Thomas Henry COX was born in Wexford County, Ireland on 27 or 29 Jun 1832. According to family history the family migrated to Canada when Thomas was about 10 or 12 years old. But according to his naturalization papers he sailed from the Port of Liverpool on the 14 of Oct 1852 for the Port of New York. He settled in DeKalb County, Illinois and applied for citizenship. He then went to Kansas and bought property in Calhoun County, Kansas (renamed Jackson). I know this is long but any help I could get trying to find his parents and siblings would be appricated. Henry Feltis (b. abt 1810) and John Feltis of Wexford emigrated from Wexford circa 1854 to Crawford Co, Ohio and later to Caldwell Co, Missouri. They were not brothers, but certainly close relatives. Henry's wife, Margaret Crowley was born 1816 in Coolroe, her mother being a Mary Feltis. Margaret's first husband was Roger Hawkins (d. Apr. 23 1852 Ballymore) by whom she had six children. Sorry I do not know of further relationships. You might want to post an inquiry at genforum as there are a number of Feltis posts in the Feltis forum. Henry Sutliff

Think of them as ferries, not ships, and you will have a better appreciation of the situation. Also, remember that in 1831, Ireland and England were part of the same united kingdom, so there were no migration formalities and no need to keep records of passengers. Most ferries to Liverpool probably sailed from Dublin, but it is likely that in 1831 there were ferries from Wexford and Belfast as well. You might be able to find out what specific routes were in regular service in 1831, but it wouldn't tell you anything about how your specific individual traveled. I suspect he could have gone directly from Wexford, or traveled to Dublin and gone from there. Merritt

My gggg uncle, Michael SULLIVAN of Wexford and his wife Catherine MURPHY emigrated to Louisiana in about 1846. I would be very interested in anything about them as I have not been able to place any of my ancestors in Ireland. Hi This is my first post to the Wexford list. I am searching for information regarding my grandfather's family who lived in New Ross. TROY, PATRICK WILLIAM born 27 May 1866 at Michael Street, New Ross. Patrick left New Ross as a young man and went to sea, becoming a Captain. He worked in San Francisco and Alaska before moving to Australia where he married AINSWORTH, HILDA WINFRED in Melbourne on October 4 1904. They had 10 children and finally settled in GERALDTON, Western Australia where he passed away on the 30th of September 1936. His father was TROY, PATRICK JAMES Subconstable (eventually Sergeant in RIC) grand-nephew of Archbishop JOHN THOMAS TROY of Dublin and first cousin to Archbishop DANIEL MURRAY of Dublin. His mother was LEAHY, ELLEN (ELEANORE?) daughter of JOHN LEAHY, Merchant and Hotel Proprietor of KILKENNY CITY and grand niece to Bishop J DOYLE of KILDARE and LEIGHLIN, the great JKL. Ellen died in 1912 in New Ross. PATRICK WILLIAM TROY had 3 sisters whose names I do not know. One married and moved to Dublin, the other two were spinsters who lived in the family home in New Ross until their deaths. There was also a brother but I believe he died in infancy or childhood. Would love to hear from anyone researching this family or who lives in New Ross. I believe one of his sisters lived until the 1980's. Many Thanks John Patrick William Troy Carnarvon West Australia
Can anyone tell me how a young man would get to Liverpool to enlist in the HEIC in 1831 ? Did ships sail Wexford harbour to Liverpool? Are there any sources for such information? Thomas Dagge emigrated to Australia in 1854 or thereabouts. I haven't been able to establish when he arrived, but his mother, Ellen Dagge and sisters, arrived at that time. He was born in Enniscorthy in 1836. His mother was Ellen Collins, her parents were Elizabeth Henshaw and Henry Collins (musical instrument maker). His father was David Dagge. Ellen and David were married in Durrow, Co. Liaos. I'd be interested in making contact with anyone researching the same names. Robyn Dagge

I am descended from a Peter SINNOTT born in 1789, either in Wexford or possbily in New Brunswick from Wexford parents. He married ANASTASIA FOLEY. They married in New Brunswick, although she definitely came from Ireland. They settled in the Morrell area of Prince Edward Island and had a large family, with many living relatives remaining on that island. Please let me hear from anyone following a Sinnott line from PEI. I think Peter was the first SINNOTT to settle on PEI. Ed Burke, Massachusetts
Hello Wexford Listers: I'm searching for any possible leads or information about my ggggrandparents John SINNOTT (abt. 1805-12 May 1880) and Ellen STAFFORD (abt. 1813-27 Feb 1883) from somewhere in Wexford. They emmigrated to the US (exact date unknown) and settled in Westminster, MD. I find them in the 1870 census but not the 1860 census. They had one son (as far as I know) Thomas SINNOTT (18 Apr 1837-12 Apr 1917). Any help would be appreciated, I would especially be interested in hearing from other folks researching the surnames SINNOTT and STAFFORD. I've been doing my genealogy for two years now but I'm new and unfamiliar with Irish research. Thank you, Roxanne Rishel

Hello Please could you contact me with the details of your Murphy ancestors. If they lived near Vinegar Hill they could have lived at either . The Old Church,[Templeshannon] or the Shannon Hill, or Dromgoole or Clonhasten areas of Enniscorthy.I have Murphy ancestors from these areas and if I knew their Christian names perhaps we could work out where they came from Peter
I don't know anything about William Esmonde, but I know that the Esmonde family was connected to Johnstown Castle in Rathaspeck, Wexford. With regard to William's point of origin, he may have left from Cork. I know that some of the Allens who left Latimerstown, Rathaspeck, Wexford in the 1790s were on a ship out of Cork. The short answer is no. Each county has one of these genealogical centres and each has been computerizing parish records for the past ten years or so (some faster than others). But at present they're only for use by the centres as I understand it; in fact, even if you visit them you aren't permitted access. The only option is to pay them the going rate and they'll do the research from the data base. Of course you can do as I've done (in addition to employing them) and go to the National Library in Dublin and examine the parish records for free (and with excellent assistance from a staff genealogist).
Are these Computerized records available to the public? Is there a plan to make Wexford records more easily found or accessed? Thanks, Joan Lacy Fitzsimmons
