Hi all, Can anybody help me with my search for members of the Scott family Circa 1790.s or later. My great, great, great, great grandfather Thomas Scott was born around 1796(?) and was married to my grandmother Augusta Dykes. All I can find is reference to his birthplace being Wexford. He was a Boatswain in the Navy, possible Merchant......and here ends the trail. If anyone has any ideas or is searching for Scotts in a similar area I would be interested to hear no matter how tenuous the link may appear...you never know! Many Thanks Mark Weaver
I am searching for the family of James Jordan, b. circa 1756. The only trail I have is to Wexford, and I believe that there were Jordans near Ballindaggin, in a townsland named Clonjordan. If anyone has any links to the Jordan family in this area, could they please contact me. Thanks very much from snowy Hobart, Christopher Dr Christopher Riley Manager, Information Services Elizabeth College 256 Elizabeth Street HOBART Tasmania 7000 Australia Tel: (03) 6235 6524 Fax: (03) 6231 3046 www.eliz.tased.edu.au
Dear Listers, I have recently added a Baptism Index to the Anglo-Irish site 'Hibernia': http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hibernia/ It contains over 1400 Baptism's held at St Austin's RC Church, Grassendale, Garston, Liverpool 1856 - 1882, transcribed by Peter Doyle. Other indices at this site: Wexford Freemen in Liverpool. Waterford Freeman in Liverpool. Burials at SS Peter and Paul's RC Church, Crosby near Liverpool. Information on this Web Site: Researching Irish Family History in Liverpool. RC Records, held at the Liverpool Record Office. Thanks to all for the pronounciation guide. My, er, um, BIRNEYs seemed to have a problem agreeing on exactly how to spell their name after they appeared in the USA, coming from Wexford.. They left a trail of every imaginable spelling, so my concern. All help appreciated. It's pronounced "BURN". Edel
In this message a name, BYRNE, is mentioned. would that name have been pronounced *BURN* or *BURNEY*, or what? Hi Everyone, Are there any records of the above regiment on line? The time period would be around 1800 as I believe this regiment took part in the Irish Rebellion. Researching Thomas Morris and Benjaman Copeland who left Ireland in 1817 for Canada. Bill Morris

Hi all... I was just going over some of my Webster material and noticed that the eldest son of Samuel John BEST and Barbara WEBSTER was named Samuel Godkin BEST. I know that Samuel John BEST came from the northern part of Ireland and I don't know if the name GODKIN is a common surname in County Armagh. Ireland, but it is in Wexford. I think maybe Barbara named her eldest son after Samuel John BEST and used her mother's surname as his middle name. I am wondering if this might be the elusive surname of Elizabeth who married Thomas WEBSTER in Wexford about 1800 or so. Elizabeth was born about 1774 in the Gorey area. Her family were protestant. Does anyone have an Elizabeth GODKIN? A family story has her crossing a field strewn with dead soldiers during the Rebellion of 1798 with her maid. There is a Wexford,Iowa. Is there any mention of POWER(S) arriving on these ships? I have just connected with desc. of Margaret POWER(S), b. Kilmore, Co. Wexford, who arrived via New Orleans in circa 1850, with a couple of siblings. She married (1853) and settled in PA. I descend from her brother Richard, who came to Australia. I just learned that my great grandfather, Fredrick Thomas Winters, was born in Broadway Town on July 30, 1869. His parents were Simon Thomas Winters and Annie Callaway. I'm interested in knowing if anyone has a copy of Simon and Annie's marriage record or any other information regarding the two of them. I found my information in the Civil Registration by using Fred's birth date. Thanks in Advance, Wendy Winters-Thacker
I do apologise for the misinformation on the the cost of BDM photocopies from the Dublin G R O. Looking back on my files I find that I was, last year, paying £1.50 per photocopy, whereas this year I have been paying £3.00. The explanation is that previously I was able to pay with Euro Cheques, which ceased at the end of 1999, and I therefore enquired of the G RO as to how I could pay for copies and to update me on the cost. They informed me that the going rate was IR £3.00 and would accept this in sterling! I now refer to a price list obtained in September 1997 which gives the fees , payable for various documents, last revised, unbelievably, in May 1989 :- "Photocopies of an entry in the Register: IR£3.00" "When reference information is supplied: IR£1.50" This year I have obtained numbers of copies, giving the appropriate reference information and have mistakenly paid £3.00 which the G R O have accepted without complaint. More fool me. I am grateful for this exchange of information which should save me a few £'s or, conversely, IR£'s ( Irish punts) in the future. Sid Geoghegan
Re Bob Coopers enquiry, the cost of a photocopy of a registration from the GRO in Dublin is £IR3.00. Sid Geoghegan, Southport, England
That would be my guess Ross. Spelling of Irish place names seemed to change like the weather. Marjorie. -----Original Message----- From: Ross Irwin [mailto:rossir@freespace.net] Sent: May 20, 2000 5:58 PM To: WEXFORD-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [WEX] townland problem An obituary for William Webster (written by his brother who used the same info) states he was born "at Killenane, near Gorey". There is no such townland listed in the "book". What would be the chances it should be "Killynann" which is just a bit north of Gorey? To an Irish ear would they sound the same? He was Church of Ireland. Anyone give an opinion? ______________________________
