    1. [WEX] Passenger Ships
    2. Is this a good, helpful list or what? I put in a query and got four answers almost immediately. Actually, I had just about given up on finding the ship my grandparents came over on, and found the one my great uncle did, but I came into this interesting information today, and wondered if the Passenger Ship List knew of this. Did you? Now I can find out.... "The British Queen was a full-masted sailing ship built in 1785 and under the command of Capt. Thomas Conway. She left Dublin on Oct. 22, 1851 with a cargo of immigrants bound for New York City .They paid 5 pounds for a berth and were required to provide their own food. There is no record of the names of the passengers. On Dec.18, 1851 , she was blown off course and foundered on a reef 12 miles out of Nantucket. Ships went out and rescued 226 passengers, two others had died. The ship was sold as salvage, but nothing was left but the quarterboard, which floated ashore. The passengers were later taken on to New York." This at least answers, for me, why it is so hard to find your ancestors' name(s) on lists. Milli

    1. [WEX] STEDMAN family in Wexford
    2. Marcia Stedman
    3. Hi, My name is Marcia Stedman and I am new to this list. I recently found out that the STEDMAN family I am researching in Ontario, Canada, originated in Wexford. They emigrated in 1817. Francis STEDMAN was born around 1776. He married Elizabeth AUSTIN. They had 3 children with them when they arrived in Perth, Ontario, William and Austin STEDMAN, and Eliza HARRISON (possibly Francis' stepdaughter). Several other related Stedmans arrived in Ontario around the same time including Nathaniel, Michael, Thomas, Bartholomew and a second Francis. I am not sure of the relationships. The family belonged to either the Anglican church or the Methodist church. Any information or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you Marcia Stedman

    1. [WEX] Gardeners/Brownes
    2. Janet Crawford
    3. Dear List members. I am new to the Wexford list. My gggrandfather was Thomas Gardener who married Bridget Kehoe. They had three children: Daniel, my ggrandfather, b. 6/8/1941 in Loughnageer, Ballycullane. In 1869 he showed his address as Blackhall, Wexford when he married Catherine Browne of Brandane. Daniel had two sisters: Elizabeth b. 11/12/1843 and Eleanor b. 10/7/1946 The baptism sponsors for Elizabeth were John Busher and Laurence Murphy. The sponsors for Eleanor were James McGrath and Marie Delaney. I understand from CWH & GS that the parish records are "mislaid" (and if there is a story behind that I'd love to know it) so that they can't trace back any farther. I am looking for any descendents of Elizabeth Gardener and Eleanor Gardener who probably remained in Ireland. I would also love to find out something about Catherine Browne and Bridget Kehoe. Any information at all will be greatly appreciated. Janet

    3. Hi Robin (chrisnrob@bigpond)! Here's the reply to your message of yesterday. I sent it directly, but it bounced. Hi Robin! Yes, I got your two previous messages, and I imagine you are correct in thinking there may be a connection, although I don't know enough to say for sure. I have been working on my mom's family and haven't done much with the Fardys. However, as soon as I research this some more, I will let you know if I find anything. From the few people researching this family that I've talked to, it's proving to be a very difficult family to find! Your first message came through fine. However, this message and the previous one came through with this message: "An ActiveX control on this page may not be safe..." and then tells me my security controls may not allow the page to display correctly (it does, as far as I can tell). Maybe this can help you with your disappearing e-mail problem. Talk to you soon. Edel

    1. [WEX] The Cushing/Kehoe Family
    2. Michael J. O'Brien
    3. Hi, I'm a new subscriber looking for family roots in Ireland. I live in Doylestown, PA USA. I'm a chemist and work for a major chemical company. All my great Grandparents, and my maternal grandfather came from Ireland that I'm aware of from one of my uncles. I am interested in learning about where they lived, and whether I can find any documentation on their births, marriages, and deaths. I would also be interested in how they made a living, any surving relatives? I'm a member of the Sean MacBride AOH in Montgomery County, PA I will limit this first note to the Cushing/Kehoe Family, but I will follow with a request regarding the Larkins of Wexford, and the O'Briens of Wexford. My maternal great grandfather Edward Kehoe, born circa December 25, 1842, came from Wexford. I'm not sure of the town. My maternal great grandmother was Margaret E. Stafford who was born around 1851 in Enniscorthy, Wexford County. They were married in Baltimore, MD circa 1871 or 1872. They had a daughter Catherine born in Baltimore Feb. 9, 1874. My great grandfather Kehoe emigrated to Baltimore, MD when he was 17 or 18 years old. He later served in the Union Navy during the American Civil War until 1864. Thomas Cushing of Cool, County Wexford was my great-great-grandfather. My great- Uncle Lawrence Cushing was supposedly born August 6, 1869 and apparently died young in Wexford County. My great grandfather Edward Cusing son of Thomas Cushing of Cool died in County Wexford in 1903. He was reportedly a builder and stone mason. My grandfather Thomas Cushing was probably born in Ramsgrange around October 31, 1865, attended school in Ramsgrange and supposely left Ireland when he was 17 or 18 years old. He arrived in Philadelphia where he served as an engineer on a merchant ship, and became a US citizen July 14, 1888 in Commercial Court in Baltimore. Thomas Cushing married Catherine Kehoe in Baltimore MD May 3, 1900. Thomas and Catherine were my maternal Grandparents. I never knew either of them both dying before I was born. I have sent this type of info several times to different web sites without any luck. I was once advised to contact Celestine Rafferty at library.wexford@tinet.ie but I have not heard from her. I subscribe to this site in hopes of finding some help. Many Thanks! Mike O'Brien
