    1. [WEX] BallyCogley, etc.
    2. Hello, fellow subscribers: I'm new to this site - a "novice" when it comes to uncovering my Irish roots. In September, I will be visiting Ireland. We plan to meet (for the first time) some distant relatives in County Wexford. I want to make reservations near their homes, however, I cannot find any references to "BallyCogley" or "Tom Haggard" on a map or in a guidebook. Does anyone know where these towns/villages are located? Also, any suggestions on where to stay? I'm researching the SINNOTT family. Thanks lots. M from Michigan

    1. Re: [WEX] Horetown school Piercetown
    2. I am looking for Pierce's. I would assume the town was named after someone by the name of PIERCE. Is there any information on the origin of PIERCETOWN. Carol Magee << In reply to Edel Codd's posting re: Horetown National School. There is no school in Horetown itself. The nearest schools would be (1) Clongeen, (2) Newbawn, (3) Taghmon, and (4) Carroreagh (sometimes spelt as Caroreigh). Horetown itself is only a townland of Foulksmills as would be say Johnstown to Duncormick, (not Johnstown Castle, this is in PIERCETOWN). The name "town" doesn't necessarily indicate the presence of "a town", more often just a gathering of anything from a single house (not necessarily inhabited or even habitable) to whatever. A case of when is a town not a town? When you're in Ireland of course! I hope this clarifies the matter. slainte. Cyril Newsome... Co. Wexford (as opposed to The Town). >>

    2. Joan
    3. Since I have been busy with work, my son's wedding and planning a trip to Ireland, I have not had a chance to go back to the census. But I received an interesting list yesterday. It is the confirmation list for Ballyculane parish 1893, provided by the parish priest via a helpful person in Wexford. According to him the church records are in poor shape. Since the records are done as usual by the winner of the townland's worst handwriting competion, on some you will get my best guess with a ? It is the only record found of my gfather** and also lists a cousin*. Confirmation was done about the age of 12. It gave me an Angela's Ashes moment thinking of these scrubbed clean happy boys. John Furlong Thomas? Murphy John O'Grady James Murphy Patrick Stafford** John Keating Henry Malerly?? Thomas Colfer? William Walsh Mehl? Nurphy Patrick H?? Jas. Cullen Maurice Fitzgerald A?? 1. [WEX] Thomas Acres Ogle
    2. Donna Unverrich
    3. Hi: I am trying to find out information on Thomas Acres Ogle, who was born in the mid 1880s; his father was George Ogle. Thomas was a militia captain and resided at Logan-Shade Carn, County Wexford. He wrote three books. The first one, "Wild Flowers of Poetry", I was able to find in Dublin. However, I am looking for the other two books, "The Rose of the Forest" and "The Irish Militia Officer". Also, I am looking for the two songs he wrote which were quite popular in the 1870s. I would like to find out more information on Thomas' parents and about where and when he died. Donna
