    2. Greetings. I am interested in any information on the FITZWILLIAM family of Wexford. The branch that I am from settled in St. Louis, Missouri as well as in Louisianna. They came to the U.S. in the mid-1800's. As you may know, the name is quite rare in the U.S. I had heard that the family lived in a place called Monaribfin but I can find no record of such a place. Any information on this family would be welcome. I know of Earl Fitzwilliam as a landowner in the county but I cannot find a connection between that family and those that immigrated to the states.

    3. I am in the process of writing for publication a Medal Roll for this award (also known - ambiguously - as 'The Black & Tan Medal' because of its relation to the fight against that force and also its Black and Tan coloured ribbon). It is intended that this work cover both classes of the medal, i.e., with and without the COMRAC (combat) bar and I hope to append a short bio to each recipient entry. My intention is also to include as much as possible a listing of the brigades, battallions and companys. This is a huge task given the paucity of information and I am appealling for any help I can get. This could come in the form of knowledge of existing medals and a note of their recipients, references to published works that contain details of the award and/or the brigades, newspaper cuttings, pictures of memorials etc. Please direct these to me at dgrant@yesic.com I have chosen to write this work, not only because of my interest in this medal as a collector, but also because I believe it to be long overdue that this award be raised to its deserved stature. Such a work will also be of interest to Irish Genealogical circles. TIA Donncha De Grant (Denis Grant) Alternative email address: denis@rumorsofglory.com

I think that the rights of a Freeman within a town or city meant he did not have to pay local taxes on goods bought or sold. In around 1830, the law changed and it seems to allow any Freeman to have Freeman rights in any town or city in Briton, but he had to produce proof that he was a Freeman. Hence the reason why Wexford Freeman certificates where in the possession of the Liverpool Corporation, who deposited them at the Liverpool Record Office. The dates quoted in the index refer to when the man became a Freeman or the date found on a letter from his parish council. Regards, Patrick Neill in Liverpool. Searching for the birth place of Isaac NEILL (c.1830), somewhere in Co. Wexford, the son of James & Sarah. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. 3. In my previous posting I referred to Anne WILKINSON Sparrow as the first born of Mr and Mrs Clarke whereas Anne was actually their granddaughter. The name Wilkinson may not be as significant as I thought as it may refer to someone in the Sparrow line. John Mitchell Victoria, BC

    3. Joseph SPARROW and Hannah CLARKE were my ggg grandparents. They married in Waterford Cathedral and lived in Clonmel. They later immigrated to Ontario. Hannah Clarke's mother was from Enniscorthy ( a friend wrote a poem "On her Marriage, and leaving the Place of her Nativity, Enniscorthy, April 28, 1796" ). The same friend had occasion to mourn her death years later and penned "Lines On the much lamented death of Mrs. Clarke" dated Enniscorthy, May 11, 1816 and signed W.F. In the poem, Mrs Clarke's death is described as a "noontide tragedy" and that she was "called early..." The info that I have: 1. Hannah Clarke's mother was born in Enniscorthy and died, in Ireland, in 1816. 2. That Clarke was her married name. I know nothing of Mr. Clarke. 3. That her marriage to Mr. Clarke took place in 1796. 4. My gg grandmother was Anne WILKINSON Sparrow, their first born, so I presume that Wilkinson was a significant maternal or paternal family name. If any of the above is familiar to anyone I would be delighted to hear from you. If anyone could suggest how to proceed with the information that I have, I would be equally pleased. 3. John Leahy of the Wexford list was able to help me. Family Tree Maker makes two backup files. In my despair at the time I only tried to restore from the one and not from the other. The restored file is almost a year old and 4 megs less so that gives you an idea of what I've still got to go thru. I'm going to contact FTM and see if I can still salvage my original. If not John has saved me alot of typing. Thank you so much for everyone's kind thoughts. Chris Doehring St. Louis Now to copy the file to another directory

    3. I'm sorry to post this but I need any help possible. I use Family Tree and in looking at the timeline (which I never knew I had before) I thought I was deleting individuals from the timeline but actually deleted all the individuals out of my group (all 1200+ of them). And the backup tape broke in the restoration. The files is still 23 megs even though it shows only 2 individuals in the index. Does anybody know if a) I can recover my individuals and b) How to do it if possible? So as not to clog the list with any replies I ask that you e-mail me directly at: doehring@ix.netcom.com I am severely bummed out right now and looking at probably 3 months worth of work just re-inputting my tree. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks, Chris Doehring St. Louis, MO

It is heart-warming when somebody writes to say that they have just found some missing connection or other. There will be many more additions over the coming weeks, including: more ships lists, Irish newspaper obituaries, more Kerry marriages and selected births and Griffith's Valuation extracts for Kilkenny. Unfortunately, I have not gotten around to answering everybody individually, so please be patient with my tardiness. 3. Can anyone help me please? My maternal grandfather was Charles Patrick JORDAN, born 13 August 1887 at Irish Street, Enniscorthy, Wexford, Eire. On the marriage cert. for my GF it shows his father as Patrick JORDAN, Jockey, but on his birth cert. for father it says Charles JORDAN, Cott-Man. His mother was Mary FLOOD. (Incidentally the Informant of the birth was Annie FLOOD, who is shown as "present at birth") It is believed he had a brother Charles and sisters Minnie and Kate. He left Ireland to join the King's Royal Rifles and fought in WW1, dying in 28 May 1932 as a result of illness due to gas inhalation during the war. That is all we know about him - does anyone out there have any morsel of information - anything is most welcome however small! Thank you for reading this message, and good luck in your quests, too!
