I will be leaving tomorrow for Ireland. Happy but freaking out about driving there. Will collect all the info I can. Joan
Hello, According to the Brian Mitchell Genealogical Atlas of Ireland, Horetown Parish is just north of Bannow Bay. I have an ordnance map and can't spot it, but I remember passing a sign with the name on it when I was visiting Wexford. Also according to Mitchell, it is between Taghmon and Adamstown. I can see a Furlongstown just up the road out of Taghmon also. The Townland Index says Horetown is in Horetoan Parish, which is in New Ross Poor Law Union. Hope this is of some help. My grandfather, John Lyng was born on May 23, 1852 and was baptised in the Roman Catholic parish of Sutton's, a few miles south of New Ross, County Wexford, on the 30th of July 1853. His father, also John was a farmer who appears in Griffith's Valuation of 1853 occupying 80 acres of land in the towland of Oldcourt. His mother's name is given in the parish register as Anne Shallow. His godparents were Pat Shallow and May Anne Brien. My grandfather married Mary Riley on July 31, 1890 in Nevadaville, Bald Mountain, CO at St. Mary's of Assumption Church. John died June 17, 1912 and both he and my grandmother are buried in Catholic Cemetery, Central City, CO. One of their children was my dad, Thomas Francis Lyng who was born in 1906 and passed away in 1982 here in Long Beach, CA. My father was then adopted by Patrick Lyng who was a cousin of John's. Patrick was born on July 4, 1875 in Cushinspown, Diocese of Fexus, County Wexford, Ireland. I would like to find out more about my grandfather's family in Co Wexford back in the 1800's. Also would like to find out when my grandfather came to the states and with whom, name of ship and dates he came. I hope that I hear from you. Sincerely, Suzanne (LYNG) Lenahan E-Mail: SLena78475@aol.com
I'm trying to educate myself a bit on how to research in Ireland. The problem is... what I know and what current reality is don't match up. I have some info from a family history: A man name Brewer, writing in 1825, noted that : Horetown... was formerly the seat of the Furlong family ... [This] family founded here in the 14th century a monastery for Carmelite, or White Friars... At the dissolution the friary was granted to Sir John Davis, from whom... the property passed to the Goff family, who have residence at Horetown, situated on an eminence in the midst of plantations. William H. Jeffery, writing in 1965, observed that "this is the present Horetown house now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Young. The exact position of the Carmelite friary is now unknown. Two 13th century castles were occupied by the Furlongs, one a Polehore and the other at Horetown. * *William H. Jeffrey, "The Furlongs of County Wexford," Journal of Old Wexford Society, #6, 1976-77, Wexford, Ireland, p. 75. My question is concerning where the present location of the old Horetown is located. If I could figure out where old Horetown is, I might be able to determine which parish to *start* looking for an Andrew Furlong (b. 1805-1810.) Or, maybe and marriage record for an Andrew Furlong and Anna around 1840. Any help or research tips would be greatly appreciated. The cd has birth 1864 to 1874 and is only a PARTIAL list. So if you want a look up in that timeframe put it to the list. I will be away for about 2 weeks but others may be able to help you. This is a 5 cd set that you can buy from the LDS web site for $15.00. Joan

The list I have was sent to me by another lister and is part of the LDS film 0100158 item 29. It consists of 4 pages. I did not see the entire film, but plan to order it. Only 4 days until I leave for Ireland with my Mother. Look out Wexford I will be driving. I will try to finish these extracts before I leave. Since the same names appear, I wonder if it is the work of a genealogist. Does anyone know more about the 1821 census and how to access what remains? I am researching the families of my 4th great grandfather and grandmother George BOULTON b. 1740 in Wexford, m. Nancy BICKFORD/BICKFORT 1761. George and Nancy immigrated to the Philadelphia, PA area of America between 1765 and 1770 with their first son, Abraham. He joined Loyalists in 1777. After the war he immigrated to Niagara region of Canada. The rattlesnakes on the land were so bad that they left and walked to York (Toronto) where they were able to take a boat to Elizabethtown Twp renamed Brockville (Ontario) in 1812. When they arrived there were no European settlements in the area. The men blazed trails into the wilderness. Upon their way, passing through the United States, a boy baby was born to them that received the name of William, a daughter, Elsea (Alice), and six sons were born in Canada.
