Dear readers I have just received a marriage certificate dated 1923 between Francis Moore and Kathleen Hughes nee Byrne which gives the groom's address as 'Felt Slob' - I know North and South Slobs are now wildfowl reserves but despite surfing the web I cannot find any mention of 'Felt Slob' - would anyone have any idea where it is. thanking you Eileen
Thankyou Cyril that is nice to know, but I wont be in Ireland until Ice cream time and do you know why the Dunbrody is off to South Wales ? From 1864 to present day the General registry Office has kept a separate book of births and deaths of Irish subjects that took place at sea. And from 1886 a printed index to this register has been placed in the back of the Birth books. For earlier indexes you need to request these from the staff at the GRO So if everything was run to what should have been your birth should have been recorded in Ireland as well as perhaps the port of disembarkation But from 1864 the GRO was required to keep a separate register of Births of Irish subjects abroad and these births to be placed in this register had to be given to the British Consulate............so once again a registration of birth ( No matter what Country) would have been been subject to someone being conscientious enough to have done it ............ And the difference in your dates may simply be between birth and Baptism you may have a baptism date Good Luck Cara ----- Original Message ----- From: "David Schoenberger" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, March 09, 2006 6:17 AM Subject: [WEX] Immigration-Birth Records question > Has anyone dealt with the birth of a child on board a passenber ship? > Is the place of birth offically the place of arrival, or departure? > (7 days old when arriving in New york from Ireland) 1880. > > Would there be any advantage to altering the birthdate to a time after > arrival? > (Actual birth date Feb 1880, birthdate on documents and census, June 1880) > > Just another twisted branch in the tree. > > > ==== WEXFORD Mailing List ==== > This list is for the discussion of Genealogy and History, primarily > regarding the Wexford area in Ireland. Hi everyone I am new to the list so I thought I would post my interests. I have 2 Roman Catholic convicts, brothers transported per Lord Sidmouth 1821. Mathew aka Michael and Timothy CONNELLY. According to Mathew's headstone in McCarthy's Cemetery Cranebrook NSW he was born 8 October 1797. He was transported for life. Timothy was born c1796 and he was transported for 7 years. Their trials were at Wexford and sentence was in July 1820. Can anyone tell me if the trial was reported in a newspaper which one would be likely and are there surviving copies anywhere? I have plenty of information to share regarding their lives in Australia. Any tips for researching in Wexford would be much appreciated. regards Lyn Brisbane Australia

UPDATE ON THE DUNBRODY It would appear I was mis-informed on Tues. by a member of Staff at the Centre. The Dunbrody is currently in Dry Dock in Cork being prepared for some Sea Trials about to take place. She will be back on the Quay in New Ross throughout April and May. She will be in Dublin from 3-5th. June. Milford Haven in South Wales from 24-27th June. then back to New Ross for July. slan Cyril Newsome ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cara_Links" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, March 10, 2006 10:38 AM Subject: Re: [WEX] Visiting Wexford this month? > Thankyou Cyril that is nice to know, but I wont be in Ireland until Ice > cream time > > and do you know why the Dunbrody is off to South Wales ? > > CARA > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Cyril Newsome" <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Friday, March 10, 2006 6:50 PM > Subject: [WEX] Visiting Wexford this month? > > > >I would like to advise anyone visiting Wexford this month hoping to snatch > >a visit to the Dunbrody Ship in New Ross that she is not there. I would like to advise anyone visiting Wexford this month hoping to snatch a visit to the Dunbrody Ship in New Ross that she is not there. She is currently in Dry Dock preparing for her departure to Havorfordwest in South Wales for the end of the month. As yet I'm not aware of when she is due to return. The visitor Centre is still open though. slan Cyril Newsome Loch Garman.
The price given for the book, which includes post and packing, is quoted in US dollars and not Australian or Canadian Dollars which has a different Currency exchange rate. Using the www.xe.com currency converter chart the rate today for the 10th. March 2006, (rounded up) equates to: $21 Canadian $24.50 Aus. I must apologise to Hugh and the List, as this is not really a place to do the business (it is actually against the rules). The book, is really, now in very short supply (only some 18 copies left) so would those actually interested in buying it please contact me direct "off List". I will be retaining just the one copy for myself and that will be it! Where I would normally keep the odd one or two, this will not be the case here. slan Cyril Newsome Loch Garman ----- Original Message ----- From: "E O'Leary" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, March 10, 2006 6:43 AM Subject: Re: [WEX] Rathnure and Templeudigan-question > How about to Australia? > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Cyril Newsome" <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Friday, March 10, 2006 10:50 AM > Subject: Re: [WEX] Rathnure and Templeudigan-question > > > > Sorry about the delay in getting back to you, I'm extremely busy at the > > moment with visitors and guided tours etc.. > > > > The content of the book is mainly cemetery inscriptions from Rathnure from > > the early 1800's up to the modern times. > > > > This book will cost you $18 in all, this includes post and packing. Has anyone dealt with the birth of a child on board a passenber ship? Is the place of birth offically the place of arrival, or departure? (7 days old when arriving in New york from Ireland) 1880. Would there be any advantage to altering the birthdate to a time after arrival? (Actual birth date Feb 1880, birthdate on documents and census, June 1880) Just another twisted branch in the tree.
Cara, in an email of 2/7/06, the subject, "SAILING OUT OF WEXFORD", you mentioned a number of ships William Graves used to ship people out of New Ross -- to Canada as we all know from the Coolattin Estate. The ships in the list were Aberfoyle through W.S. Hamilton. Could you tell me where I might find the passenger lists for these ships? Thanks. Richie

Someone at [email protected] writes: << Are references to Milltown, Killane and Milltown, Enniscorthy the same place? >> I think I'd have to say........ "probably". There are six Milltowns in Co. Wexford, and two of them are equally close to Enniscorthy - about 7 miles. One Milltown is just outside of Ferns town, but I would assume that any reference to that townland would be based in reference to Ferns, rather than Enniscorthy. The Milltown in Killann civil parish is just outside of the village of Killann, about 7 miles due west of Enniscorthy. Killann is just a townland and small village and there aren't really any sizable towns nearer than Enniscorthy. So, I guess by default, an address of Milltown, Enniscorthy would be reasonable. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Pete Schermerhorn, in the glorious Berkshire hills of western Massachusetts
